My wedding was pretty casual, but my sister's May wedding is coming up and my mother doesnt know what to wear. What did your Mom or DH's Mom wear to your wedding? Thanks!!

This is a great question...Everything my mom is looking for is just NOT what is out there...We might have to go as far as having her outfit made...She wants a suit...not a dress...

I don't think my mother has worn a skirt or dress since 1990, so it was definitely not an option for our wedding. She found a nice silk dupioni jacket in silver and a shimmery dark grey blouse and trouser combination. She wanted something a bit 1930s for the reception, so the blouse had a low tie around the hip. I think it took her about 4 months to find it all!

I think what the MOB and MOG wears is really dependent on the formality of the wedding, time of day, and time of year. Also, typically the MOB picks her outfit out first and then relays it to the MOG so she picks something along the same line.

My wedding was at 5pm and was Black Tie Invited so both mom's had floor length dresses. I definitely think the one thing that trumps all else is that your mom feels good, comfortable, and beautiful in her outfit. It completely shows in pictures!

Here's me with my bro and my beautiful Mom:

Since we didn't originally have family when we got married (in a JOP Office), my mom wore a beautiful long black gown to my sister's wedding(bridesmaid color for her wedding was black) and our stepmom(who I swear thinks she's our mom but isn't) wore a long beaded champagne dress(looked like a nightgown if you asked me). For our upcoming Disney VR, I'm having my Bridesmaids all wear the same dress but 3 different colors, and the BM will wear ice blue, MOH's wear baby pink, and my mom will be the MOH/MOB standing closest to me in the same dress in lavendar. My stepmom can wear whatever she wants but it better not look like a night gown.

MOG at my sister's wedding didn't follow formality at all and wore black long spandex pants, tank top and a shirt over.

As soon as I get my new computer, Ill post pix of my mom &stepmom's dresses from my sister's wedding.

Our wedding was noon so not overly formal. I told everyone "Sunday best". My mom actually started out with a dress with a floral pattern, but the zipper broke and couldn't be fixed so she spent a long evening at the mall looking for a new one. While her dress really didn't follow our color pallette I thought she looked really good:

MIL went along with everyone else and got something in the blue family which was our colors:

I think a lot of it has to do with the mom's personal style too. My mom is a bit more modern and didn't want to look like the traditional MOB, while MIL is more traditional.

My daughter is getting married in August. I haven't picked out my dress yet(I swear I'm going to lose weight before then), but I have already told my youngest daughter it's her responsibility to make sure I remember to put it on! If my daughter's wedding day is as chaotic as her prom days were, I should probably sleep in the dress! My daughter's colors are orchid and raspberry, so I am sorta-kinda looking for a dress in a shade lighter than either of those colors...I would hate to stand out more than the bridesmaids. My mother has 7 sisters with several children each, so we've seen everything you can imagine on a MOB(the tight-fitting silver thing one aunt wore comes to mind), but the outfits that looked the best were the dresses that came at least to bottom of the knees and were a shade complimentary to the wedding colors. The pictures always looked nice when the colors "blended". Of course, your mother will look beautiful in anything, but the last thing you want her worrying about is whether she wore the right dress.

We had a midday casual wedding and both my mom and DHs step mom wore pant suits in gray or black colors. They were casual but nice. I don't know about your moms size but my mom is plus sized and finding clothing that was flattering and made her feel good while remaining within her budget was tough. Although we did luck out and found a nice outfit at JCPenney right around Easter.

My mum is disabled and cannot wear heels. She originally had a dress but changed her mind as she didn't feel comfortable in it. She went with a darker shade of orange to tie in with the colour scheme:

Here is my mom we had a blue color scheme so she went along with that.

here is my mother in law, she went with a mid length black dress.

I was both a MOB and MOG last year. In this picture at my DD's wedding, I am wearing a sage green dress (although it looks like a different shade in the church's lighting). It is actually a dress in a bridesmaid's line. I was having a hard time finding a dress that was a designated MOB dress. They were either all long or more like a suit, which didn't look right on me. My DD's bridesmaids' dresses were a pinky peach color and she had white and sage green as complement colors, so I went with the green so as not to clash with the bridesmaids. The MOG in the picture is wearing a light pink suit dress, but it worked well with the BM dress color.

This is the dress I wore for my DS's outdoor wedding. It was from Sears, believe it or not. I wasn't intentionally looking for a dress at the time, but it caught my eye. It was a brown chiffon with a satin ribbon bow at the waist and it was a very comfortable dress. The MOB wore a green suit dress with sparkly rhinestones on the jacket. The wedding colors were green, brown and a hint of yellow. (Sorry my pictures are so large!)
