What did you think of the Cape May Cafe?

We have booked the "Clambake" at the Cape May Cafe for dinner one evening during our upcoming 9/08 trip. My husband and I are native Cape Codders so we are curious about the quality of the seafood? If you have eaten there... is it any good or will we be disappointed? We are not expecting perfection - but just wondering if we should skip and try somewhere else?

Thanks for the advice!:wizard:

My opinion is that you are going to be disappointed, especially as a native Cape Codder. I am a New Englander - we can get the real thing up here. Just not authentic - not good food. Check out the "Disney Restaurants you'd never go back to thread".

I am caught up in the middle of this one! I spent lots of time in Montauk here in LOng Island and work in a restaurant on the south bay I too know god sea food. I would say cape may is up there with authenicity but of all the seafood in disney it was the best!

We are from EAstern Shore MD area and the seafood is horrible at Cape May. We are used to good seafood and crunchy clams are not acceptable. I just posted this somewhere else - in the place I would not return to thread. LOL.

I've spent time in Maine, lived in VA on the coast and have had good seafood. It's not the same as eating on the beach, but it's pretty darn good.

The nice thing for our family is the variety of non-seafood items. DH & I can eat bowl after bowl of clams, mussels and clam chowder while the kids eat ribs & chicken and hot dogs, pasta, pizza and so on. The salad bar section is very good and the desserts are Yum!

As a native Cape Codder, you will be disappointed in the "clam bake" at Cape May. I'm right next door to you in Plymouth (born & raised) and I can only suggest that you either lower your standards a bit or change your reservations to something else.

I went just one time, it was not what I expected. I live in Mass so we have some of the best seafood here so I could not justify me ever going back there. It was so bad, I did say something to the waitress, the manager came over and charged us for a childs meal beacuse we next to nothing. I didnt say something to get something, I just wanted them to know it was not good at all
:scared1:

Kind of what we were figuring... just wondering if we should give it a shot. Thanks for the advice!:)

Had read great things on the boards but were very disappointed. We are midwesterners who love seafood (which ususally means on vacation). We felt the food was average at best.

I don't like to say "don't go there" to anyone regarding anywhere because you may have a different experience than we did, but I was happy at all with the meal there. I can't complain about the atmosphere - after all, when you you are at a character meal, what do you expect it to be like! I just don't think the food is very good. We have been to their breakfast too and that was pretty awful. Again, just our experience, but that is all I can go by. For seafood, I would go to Bluezoo, but it is obviously a much different type of restaurant and a much more expensive night out.

It is pretend seafood - and only a few selections. Most of the food is typical non-seafood buffet and mediocre. If you want good seafood go to the Flying Fish instead - or Narcoosees or Cali Grill.

Dont expect NE seafood. The clam chowder is ok, DH says the littlenecks are ok...not Gloucester food that is for sure.

OMG we love love love the Clam Bake
DH asks to do this every trip

We loved it the seafood was great
We are seafood lovers and this is an awsome bang for you buck

I have really enjoyed the breakfast buffet here.Lots of variety AND the chef came out to greet us. As for the clam bake...as a native of NE (from Halifax Ma.) ths is not the place to go. Definatly not the seafood you are used to. The atmosphere was right up there wht the best adn I have to say if your looking for other stuff on the menu...give it a shot. If you are out for the seeafood go somewhere else.

It was fair. If you're looking for a decent buffet with a lot of filling food, you'll be happy. If you're looking for good seafood like you said, I'd say you might be disappointed.
