What did you like about the Atlantis excursion in Nassau

My DH and I are looking more into the excursions. I wanted to do the the Dolphin Encounter and he has pointed to the Atlantis encounter (due to its less expensive) to do instead.

How is that excursion? What did you do on it? Would you do that excursion again on your next cruise?

We have done two different excursions on Nassau. We did a bus trip around area, which wasn't very good. However, we did the excursion to Atlantis and the aquarium located at the hotel and that was pretty good. It did not include swimming. You take a boat to paradise island and they include rum punch on the way. Then they walk you to lobby and galleria of the hotel. You have a tour of the grounds of the hotel and then are free to walk and around and explore the lost city of atlantis, underground aquarium. They have a swinging bridge and we watched them feed sharks. The aquariums are beautiful and they totally encompass you; you walk through a glass tunnel of fish. I would do this again, but the grounds and all are so beautiful, I would rent a room and swim next time in addition. (Probably at the more inexpensive comfort suites.) But the aquarium and grounds tour was fine. You also can go in the casino and shops. Barb

We did the Atlantis excursion (exactly as macbasset described) on our 1st cruise and the Comfort Suites option on our 2nd cruise. Much preferred the CS way. The pools and slides are terrific at the Atlantis! Plus, you can explore at your own pace. We thought the tour on the excursion was a little rushed, we needed to rest when it was over.

Have a great trip!

Ok, you've said the magic word! Atlantis is the real highlight of Nassau.

Ok, you *can* do the excursion, but, as the above poster said it can get rushed. It is a gorgeous resort, you have four options:

1) The Disney excursion, already outlined fully above.

2) Get a room at the resort, and use all the amentities, 2 options: reserve a room, or try to get over and get a 'day room' limited in availability, first come, first served, and a good bit cheaper.

3) Get a room at Comfort suites, which is considerably cheaper, and allows up to 4 per room full access to everything at Atlantis.

4)(my preference) If you really don't want to use the water amenities, which amounts to a few fancy slides, a nice beach, and a lazy river, You can very easily do it yourself. To do so, just follow the following steps:
  • Leave the ship and go to the end of the dock.
  • Take one of the numerous taxis for (right now, price partially depends on a bridge toll) $5 per person to Atlantis, much more pleasant than the overcrowded water taxi.
  • Walk to the center of the casino upon arrival, to the kiosk with the blue globe(Temple of the Moon).
  • Buy a wristband for $25 each for access to all the resort except the water recreation(you can still walk out to the beach, just not on it).
  • Walk the Dig at your own pace. It's long, at least a mile or more, but it is exceptional. And you basically walk about 2/3 of the property in doing so, they give you a map. You can go where you wish, at your own pace.
  • Whenever you're done, just go back to where you were dropped off for another taxi ride back to the ship.
We did this and still got back in time for a late lunch shipboard. But you can indulge yourself of the restaurants at Atlantis, but they are a bit pricey. Any questions? Feel free to ask!

We hadn't planned on going to Atlantis (not into Casinos) but your option #4 sounds like a reasonable plan. Thanks for the wonderful breakdown.

Thanks everyone for your responses

. I will definately either book the Atlantis excursion or like MarkRG said just go there ourselves and buy those wrist bands and tour the resort in our time not someone elses rushed time. I will see what DH wants to do.

Again thanks everyone.
