What did you get and what did you give for Valentine's Day?

We don't observe Valentine's Day because we were married 6 days later on DH's Birthday (44th Anniversary coming up). We honeymooned in Niagara Falls, Ontario, and go back for the wk-end every year.

This year (next wk-end) we are taking our 8 yr old Dgs, and spending 2 days at the Niagara Fallsview Waterpark/Resort. Should be fun! I'll be spending most of my time at the artificial beach area when my 2 darling men are on the waterslides. :beach:

Got some candy from DW.

Got her a new saucepan & I grilled supper...outside...in high winds....and 17 degree temps :)

We did a non-traditional Valentine's Day by doing a ziplining/ropes obstacle course together (we're both very out-doorsy people). We had so much fun and kissed on every platform (after each zip or obstacle). It was a super fun way to celebrate the holiday :)

Sounds great, but am I missing something? This water park/resort is all enclosed?
Am sure outside you would be sliding on ice this time of year????

I gave dh a card but spent all last week with him in Savannah so that was his gift. He bought me a card plus two different bottles of vodka.

Oops! Yes it's "indoors" a rooftop location enclosed on 3 Acres 16 Waterslides Wave Pool Hot Spring area artificial beach, and restaurant. There's adjacent bldgs 3 Hotels (with Fallsview Dining), Planet Hollywood, Rainforest Cafe, Hard Rock Cafe, Starbucks, Mini Golf, Laser Tag, Bumper Cars, and way too many (IMHO) arcade games!

Edited:. I viewed this site this morning:

My DH gave me red tulips (my favorite flower). I gave him a box of truffles. We got my toddler a heart balloon & a purse. She gave me a valentine that she colored :)

Nothing. But we did go shop for a new shed for the backyard. But since we had to put a new transmission in our family car 4 weeks ago, it will be a couple of paychecks before we can afford to buy the new shed. Ah, deep love after 33 years of marriage. :)

I got DH tickets for us to see Dave Matthews in May, and he got me a replacement for my wedding ring. When we got married, we cheaped out on my wedding band, and he has been wanting to upgrade it ever since. Now I have a nice wedding band to match my engagement ring. This was the first year we've been without the kids on Valentine's Day, so we just spent the day together, had lunch out, did some shopping...then came home and watched Gone Girl. He's traumatized now, LOL!! But now he knows why I was so disturbed by the book!

We went out for a nice dinner last night because we had tickets for a concert tonight. I won't say who performed, but he was a moldy oldie and his songs were so monotonous I'd rather poke my eye with a sharp stick than listen to him again. Tho he still plays a mean guitar.

It was nearly 9:30 by the time the concert finally ended -- PTL! and we started looking for a restaurant for a quick dinner, but several places were already closed. go figure. The place we ended up at had a private party of about 50 young adults in the next room, and they were whooping and hollering and carrying on -- it was anything but a quiet romantic evening. oh well.

Valentine's Day has always been a big deal in my family because it's my birthday... my mom has always been big on the "you're my best valentine ever!" theme. Growing up, my sister and I always got pretty extravagant Valentine's presents - I always knew that my "big" V-day present was also a birthday present, and my little sister got a decent V-day gift so she would't feel left out. HOWEVER, I will never forget my 12th birthday when we woke up and my parents realized that they had forgotten to get my 6 year old sister a Valentine present... my mom rushed out and bought her a Game Boy! I. Was. LIVID! :furious: Especially because I wasn't allowed to play with it unless my sister let me! :charac2:THE HORROR OF IT ALL!!.

But seriously... I've always felt bad for my DH because when I met him my mom informed him of his Valentines/Birthday duties which included very specific directions pertaining to making an effort to separate Valentine's and Birthday gifts.

Snow, snow & more snow - trying to figure how I can return it though!

:sad2:

Just because some people choose to make a day EXTRA special doesn't mean regular days aren't special as well.

Where in my post did I say or imply that?? I just saying that we don't celebrate. In my opinion most holidays are over commercialized. If someone chooses to celebrate and go all out that is fine with me. Was just stating what we did. Good grief

DH and I do not exchange gifts for any of the "gift giving" holidays. (We do get a few things for the kids.). DH had to work at 5am yesterday and he did leave a note and a big spread of candy in the shape of a heart on the table.

On a funny note, he started a new job last month. All his coworkers are women and they don't know him well since he's new. Last week they were trying to be "helpful" so one person emailed an article about how men spend an average of $213 for Valentines Day. Then at lunch a group of them were discussing this article and asking DH what he had bought to make sure he had spent beyond the average. He said, "Well, I definitely won't be spending $213 since I'm planning to buy nothing". I think they were all a bit shocked and horrified. DH reveled in the few moments of uncomfortable silence.
