What did you call the girls’ high-hair styles, in the late 80s

We called the process of getting our bangs to stick straight up as if we were perpetually getting a surprise 'ratting.' I don't remember a name for the hairstyles themselves. I went through a can of AquaNet a week. That hole in the ozone? All me.

When I became enamored of Bono, I scrapped the big hair and got a mullet just like his. My friends were absolutely scandalized.
LOL, you aren't alone with the Aqua Net HS. I went through one can a week too and took it to school and used it in the girls bathroom. The bathroom was so clouded with hair spray that you couldn't hardly breath, LOL. Back then Aqua Net cost 39 cents a can..............It's a wonder we didnt' all have lung problems.

Rave, people. Not Aqua Net! LOL
I knew I liked you for a reason. Who knew it was because of 80s hair.

"Poofy bangs" - divide into sections, curl three up, two under, fluff together with special brush, spray, spray, spray...

I can still smell THE SMELL of burnt hair. I worked at JC Penney's and I know I stunk up the whole place that day.

Unrelated, we used to get $2 in cash for every credit card application. First, it was a military town so a young girl was able to get a LOT of applications. Second, it was before computers were mainstream so all paper. Lots of fake SSNs.

Not that I'm proud, but let's just say us 19 year olds made a killing on the weekends LOL!

I grew up in central NJ and I usually heard things like bouf, NJ mall chick hair, and in general- big hair/big bangs. I have naturally curly hair, which added to my volume, but my bangs usually looked kind of like a big lion’s mane. I was looking at some old yearbook pics and there were at least a couple of years where they couldn’t even fit all of mine in the frame. 😂

Rave 3 was the go-to for us because-
1. It didn’t flake badly like Aquanet
2. It didn’t damage the hair like other sprays
3. It worked well with heat (irons, blow dryers, etc).
