What did you all think of this week's trading spaces

On the first episode (the soccer player one) I thought that Hildi's room was horrible. First off, it had a mural of her face. Wow, what an ego. But that wasn't all. The furniture was horrible (and I'm not talking about the carpentry stuff that couldn't be done). Why would you want chairs that have no back? And the minibar didn't look very good, the tv was too low to watch and the yellow was so bright.

Frank's room was a little better, but I hated the burgundy ceiling. It's also going to be really hard to paint over due to the texturing. It's going to take like 12 coats.

On the second episode, I was surprised they had Hildi doing a kid's room. At least she didn't put hay on the walls. I thought it was okay. Not nearly as cool as Vern's planes, trains and automobiles but a pretty good room for Hildi. The homeowners seemed to love it.

The other designer (I can't remember her name) used some nice colors. But again she had a wallpaper border! At least that one wasn't quite as heinous as the others. And that bed is going to be so annoying. Can you imagine every time you roll over (or your partner does) how much that puppy is going to sway. And let's not even go there about other things. I did like the meditation area and the colors.

I can't believe I'm so addicted to this show.

I frankly thought the mural looked alot like Mary Tyler Moore!! I'm not surprised, though, she is soooo full of herself!

I am afraid I missed the second show. Promised my family we would watch E.T.. As for Hildi, I never like her rooms. She is a little out there in her designs. I cannot believe Frank painted the ceiling burgandy. What was he thinking. I usually love his rooms. This is the first one I really questioned. I too am addicted to this show.

I cringe on behalf of the poor homeowners every time I see Hildi is one of the designers. Her Hildenstein was just a little too much for me! I'd almost rather have Doug do my room

I hated all the rooms except for Frank's and even in his room I didn't care for the ceiling. I liked the way the purple looked over the red walls.

This Saturday is re-runs.

Didn't like Frank or Hildi's rooms in the first episode. I usually like Frank's rooms, but not this one.

I thought Hildi made a pretty good effort on the kid's room.

I thought the same thing about the bed! There is no way you could even turn over without it swaying all around. I loved the colors, but between the border and bed, I would say it was a "no".

I hope they did a little research re: the structural integrity of the ceiling, lest the bed crash to the ground in "mid-activity."

Yes, Buckalew those are my kids. Thanks for the compliment. It's an old picture, but one of my favorites. I just got a scanner and I've only scanned in 3 pictures so far. I need to put in a more recent one.

Dana, the homeowner in the swinging bed episode posts over on the Trading Spaces board. She said TS had a safety engineer come and inspect everything in the room. I guess they are doing this with all the rooms this season. They must be trying to discourage lawsuits.

I thought the kids room was cute, though not really practical for long term. Knowing Hildi though, it could have been so much worse. I didn't really care for any of the other rooms.

I missed them I'm sure there will be re-runs though. Frank is my favorite and Lauri is my second favorite. I have detested almost everything Hildi has done. I really want to see this portrait....ewww!

I missed it this weekend. I hate Hildi's rooms too. I always tell DH that I want Frank to so a room (or house) for me

I didn't like the first episodes rooms at all...

Second episode I could have sworn that lady was going to freak out when she saw her room...she said at some point.."I am going to freak out if the room is floral or ethnic in any way" I really thought the room was hideous....but to each his own. The kids rom was cute but not that great. I don't like Hildi and I don't like the new lady Kira? or whatever...her rooms so far have been awful (astro turf???) BLECH!

First show.. those soccer girls worked very, very hard.. the purple/red-Frank room was not too bad.. I think someone stole Frank's line brush ! Hildi's room.. dear lord I understand the portrait concept.. but it would have been better to do two soccer players.. the furniture was odd.. very odd. No one seemed too pleased with either outcome.

Second show. I was worried about the Arabian room, but it came out much better than expected.. I thought the HO wife would totally lose it when she saw it. Not my style but then the designers would puke if they saw my country-ish home... Hildi's kid room.. Loved the paint color and the rock wall.. good idea for oddly shaped room. Functional.. I don't think so... How long do you think the tent stayed up in that little guy's room?

Re-runs next week??.... that's ok.. maybe I will catch up a little bit.

Couldn't decide whether it looked like Mary Tyler Moore or Marlo Thomas (in 'That Girl'), what what is up with Hilde? Do you think those people really want the testament to Hilde's ego on their wall???

By the way, what exactly makes one a designer for this show? Love the new lady, and Vern - Hilde, Genevieve and Doug all need to understand that people actually LIVE in the p[laces!!

But I love the show...

Mary Ellen, I was just going to say the same thing. Go to those boards at your own risk. The moderator is practically non-existant, and there are a good number of really nasty people there. However, there are a lot of homeowners who post there and are very willing to answer any behind-the-scenes questions you may have.

I only lurk those boards because of the 'nasty' factor. I also HATE the pop-up ads on the Twp site.

TwP also has episode recaps and other 'extras'. One of these is a WONDERFUL Vern Yip interview. The recaps (with some [usually catty] commentary) are here.
