What did WE celebrate? .. 30 days of Disney fun and food! Update 04/02

Still Day 20, September 2

Dinner at the California Grill, Part 2

As always we were stuffed right after our entree, but our sweet server "insisted" we had dessert! :lmao: I promise you, even though we felt full, she didn't have to twist our arms! ;)

Tom said he wanted something "light", so he got the Sweet Celebration. Florida Peach Crostata with Brown Sugar Sour Cream and White Peach Ice Cream.
While he enjoyed it, I was missing the WOW factor. Nice crisp pastry, which went surprisingly well with the Sour Cream, but the peaches (and ice cream) lacked a little flavour! :confused3

IMG_7313.jpg

Okay, you have seen this one before! And YES, it was MY choice, HANDS DOWN, without even looking at the menu! :lmao:
Valhrona Chocolate Cake, warm chocolate cake with molten center, Cherry Compote, Cherry Chocolate Ice Cream.
I did my best, but was not able to finish it.

When we finally finished our meal, there was only one more family dining there. It was empty and quiet and peaceful! But we got the heck out of there. The servers had had a long night already and we did not want to keep them any longer than we had to!

We went back to OKW and collapsed on the sofa. Watched a little TV before we went to bed!

We had Free Disney Dining Plan which we had upgraded to the DxDDP. We booked through the British Disney Travel company and the cost for nine nights and 2 people was ....... 270 British Pounds = 420 $

So, we paid 420$ (difference between DDP and DxDDP) for 9 days of DxDDP! ;)

How much did we actually cost Disney?
54 dining credits
36 snack credits
California Grill ...... 155,50 (4 DC ......... 48 DC remain)
2 Refillable Mugs ...... 29,80
OKW General Store ...... 4 bottles of water 10,00 (4 snack credits ......... 32 snack credits remain)
Cost altogether ..... 281,50$

420$ - 281,50$ = 138,50$

Next up - Lunch at Yak & Yeti

Great pictures of the fireworks. The lamp chops looks good.

Thank you! :goodvibes We love watching the fireworks from the observation deck. They pipe in the music and it is so neat to see the castle and the fireworks in the background.
Those lamb chops were really yummy yum yum! ;)

I can't believe I almost missed your California Grill post! I remember wondering how I could possibly eat sushi and a flatbread at the same meal? I figured the combination would be yucky. In fact, it was delish! Glad to hear you had a good meal. I was beginning to really worry, as the place hasn't been getting great reviews on here lately. But I'll be dining there again really soon! :goodvibes

Yummy dinner at CG, so can't wait to eat there again :teeth:

It is just the best watching the fireworks from the observation deck as you get to view it in such a wide spectrum :)

I'm with you on the Valrhona Chocolate Cake! I rarely even glance at the CG dessert menu. Really, I'm just checking to see what the pairing is. That cherry version looks DIVINE!

LOVE your reviews!!! we had decided to go to Kouzzina instead of California Grill on our trip, and seeing your meal there makes me have dinner envy!!! (Not that Kouzzina was bad, I've never been to CG, and it always looks SO good!) :goodvibes

You? Miss one of my posts? ........... NEVER!!! :lmao:
So you had sushi and a flatbread too? We didn't really share it, just try each others, but to be honest I CAN think of having both at the same meal! ;)
We have always had a good experience at the CG, but then we just love it there very much! To experience the fireworks from the observation deck and the yummy food get us in a very good mood, I think. And to be served by one of our favourite servers can be the icing on the cake! :goodvibes

When is your reservation at the CG? We'll eat there on the Feb 21!

I just hope you won't be all that tired again when you get to eat there again Stefy!

The fireworks are just so impressive from up there! And you get a perspective on where they are actually fired from!

I'm with you on the Valrhona Chocolate Cake! I rarely even glance at the CG dessert menu. Really, I'm just checking to see what the pairing is. That cherry version looks DIVINE!

Thank god, there are others that are addicted to that Valrhona Chocolate Cake!
I mostly do read the menu and I honestly go there that this time I will order something else, but the cake always wins! ;) Oh, and the cherry compote and ice-cream were outstanding! :cloud9:

Oh Karin the flatbread and sea bass look like my dream meal :cloud9:

I am sure you'd enjoy them both! Are you planning to go to the CG during your next trip?

Seriously AMAZING review!!!! Thanks so much!

Thank you for your kind words! I am so happy you enjoy the reviews! :goodvibes

Thank you! I am glad you enjoy the reviews. :goodvibes
California Grill is one of our favourites and a must do every trip, since our first visit in 2006!
But we have had a few meals at Kouzzina as well and we really enjoyed them, but it is a totally different kind of restaurant! :thumbsup2

Hi Karin

We aren't visiting CG on our next trip as we are trying lots of new places but we will be sure to visit again some time.
Last time we were there the sushi was wonderful :)

Karin where are you!? I need more food pics!!!!! I'm hyperventilating over here! :lmao:

I finally started my pre trip report...hopefully it and my actual trip report can live up to yours. I've only had one reply on it so far but a few readers. We'll see how it goes. It's called Viva Verde if anyone is interested!

:sad2: No Cali Grill, but :woohoo: for new places to visit!
It was nice to finally be able to talk Tom, who is the sushi lover in our house, into trying their sushi! Guess he will have more of it in just 5 more short weeks!

I guess here we are - hosting 5 threads AND being back at work is not as easy as I thought it would be! ;) :lmao:
But I am here now - update is coming up shortly - I am working on it!

I checked out your pre-trip report! :goodvibes

Day 21, September 3

Lunch at Yak & Yeti

We started the day with an "in room - out of the fridge" breakfast before we headed over to the Animal Kingdom. We arrived right after rope drop and were able to fit in a few rides before it was time for our 12 noon lunch ADR at Yak & Yeti.
Even though we were running a few minutes late we were led to an upstairs table right away.

Our server introduced herself and went to get our staple of "Two Diet Cokes, please" while we were studying the menu.

Looking at the drinks menu, Tom decided to have one of these.

IMG_7325.jpg

....... a Kingfisher Lager, which he enjoyed very much.

I had seen something on a trip report, (Ellen, was that yours? :confused3) that I really wanted to try.

IMG_7326.jpg

IMG_7327.jpg

IMG_7322.jpg

A Cherry Infusion Martini! Skyy Infusions Cherry Vodky, Sweet and Sour and a Splash of Grenadine!
They bring out the glass with just the crushed ice "snowball" in it, then pour on the drink - and it was YUMMY!!! Loved it! Thank you so much to the person who tried this and put it in their trip/dining report!

Since we were on the deluxe plan we ordered two appetizers.

IMG_7331.jpg

IMG_7333.jpg

Tom ordered the Thai Chili Chicken Wings - fried chicken wings tossed in a sweet Thai chili sauce, spicy Asian pickled cucumbers - which were a huge order and very tasty! We shared!

Again, I had made my mind up before even looking at the menu and I knew what I wanted to try.

IMG_7330.jpg

The Wok-Fried Green Beans - battered green beans, sweet Thai chili dipping sauce. O M G we were in veggie heaven! If all veggies tasted that good, dipped into the chili sauce I'd turn into a vegetarian! :lmao:
Honestly, we loved those - crunchy on the outside, with a perfectly cooked green bean inside! The sauce added a little bite to it, so yummy!
Needless to say, that got shared too! :thumbsup2

IMG_7337.jpg

Tom ordered the Duck with Anandapur Glaze - roasted half duckling, orange wasabi glaze, jasmine rice, stir-fried vegetables for his entree. I did taste and it was real nice.

IMG_7335.jpg

My decision for entree was the Maple Tamarind Chicken - Seared chicken breast, Indonesian tamarind glaze, coconut ginger rice, baby bok choy, shiitake mushroom stir fry.
Okay, the chicken was really good, moist and tasty. I would not have guessed that there was coconut in the rice, all I could taste was ginger and rice, but non the less, very tasty. I didn't like the bok choy though, which was slightly undercooked to my standards and underseasoned. AND there were LOADS of it! :rotfl2:

There is only "one choice" for us for dessert. Don't get me wrong, all their offerings are nice, but there is that ONE dessert I would not miss for the world!

IMG_7341.jpg

IMG_7346.jpg

Fried Wontons - Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons, vanilla ice cream, honey vanilla drizzle . We both LOVE that dessert and order it every time we go there. So yummy. The crisp wonton with the smooth and creamy filling. The pineapple that cuts the richness of the wontons and the sweet honey vanille drizzle. I could do without the ice-cream though! :thumbsup2

It was a really good meal and we were stuffed when we left to go over and have another adventure here .....

Next up - An Animal Kingdom snack

We are going the evening of the 23rd. Its my mom's actual birthday! :cool1: I'm sure we'll have a wonderful meal and then watch the fireworks from the observation deck at the end of our meal. Our timing should be just about perfect, as we have an ADR for 5:50.

Yak and Yeti looks so good! I don't know if we'll ever try it, though, as it seems not to fit in with our plans ever. Oh well... Someday... There's always the next trip and the trip after that....and the trip after that! :rotfl:

Wow Yak & Yeti looks great ............. and that dessert..... wow :cloud9:

If only all fruit and vegatables could be fried in batter

great update on Yak and Yeti. We tried it last month and my husband and I were pleasantly surprised it was really good food. The only thing is I loved the mangoe pie rather than the fried wonton dessert.
Thanks for sharing

I just knew your Yak & Yeti review was going to get my mouth watering again....and it did! Those wings looks awesome. And that duck! Oh my, I'd LOVE to try that duck sometime.

Hi, Ive been keeping up with your updates, theyre fab as always. :goodvibes
Not long until I can make my ADR's :cool1:
shame my husband and son are only really interested in buffets. I really want to try yak & yeti, I could always go solo :rotfl2:
