party: I guess it is time I get this party started! party:

Intro:

We devided our summer holiday into 3 parts this summer.

Aug 14 - 26 we stayed at Old Key West (with a generous discount thanks to Disney Travel Company UK) and Free Dining (Basic DDP)

Aug 26 - Sept 2 we sailed back to back on the Disney Wonder

and

Sept 2 - 11 we returned to Old Key West, again with the UK discount and Free Dining, this time updated to Deluxe Dining

So, this is where we start:

August 14, travel day

Breakfast at home and airplane food

Our flight out of Linz was at 11am, so we had time for a nice breakfast at home, consisting of tea and coffee, some juice

BAEC_Handsemmel_l1.jpg

fresh and slightly warm Austrian rolls, baked to perfection by the famous Brandl bakery. These are light and airy on the inside with a crispy crust - yummy, and some

perfectly fresh and still warm pumpkin seed rolls. These are made from wholegrain flour, but still soft and airy, but they have that slight nutty taste from the pumpkin seeds. These are soooooooo good and what I miss most while on vacation.

Tom had soft boiled the last of our eggs and we had some butter, ham and cheese with them.

We were definitely ready for our long journey to Orlando, to reunite with Mickey again!

The first flight to Frankfurt is only 55 minutes long, so once they arrive at cruising altitude, they start handing out snacks and drinks.

We both got this snack pack of two vanilla and chocolate cakes. For a pre packaged cake these are quite good, a little dense but still moist and not too sweet.

I had water with it and I think Tom had some coffee, but it could have been Coke - I don't have a photo, sorry!

During our stopover we finished off the lunch we had packed ourselves.

Some of the breakfast rolls filled with ham and pickles. Tom had some beer with it, while I stuck to the Diet Coke.

At 2pm our flight to Orlando left Frankfurt airport and we were served our first drinks, more water for me and more beer for Tom

they handed out some pretzels. They are softer than the American variety and are slightly salted. About 2 hours later we were served lunch.
Lunch is a main meal here, so it is always a very nice meal.

IMG_5416.jpg

The food on Lufthansa flights TO a destination is always real nice - their catering is very good.

We started our meal with

IMG_5413.jpg

a small salad with Balsamic dressing and a herbed shrimp skewer! The salad was crisp and fresh and the shrimps were moist and well seasoned. We were really amazed.

IMG_5418.jpg

Tom had the the sweet and sour chicken, which was surprisingly moist and flavourful. The rice was slightly underseasoned, but still went well with the sauce.

IMG_5421.jpg

I had the trofi-pasta with two kinds of pesto. The pasta cooked perfectly al dente, don’t know how they do that with pre-packaged food and was served in a creamy white sauce, and the pesto went so well with it. I really enjoyed it.

IMG_5414.jpg

For dessert we got this variation of Key Lime Pie. Even though it was not particularely bad it had a bit of an artificial taste. But who am I kidding, this is not haute cuisine, this is airplane food in tourist class and for that it was really okay.

After our lunch we were served digestives and coffee and tea and then Tom and I took some sleeping aid and tried to sleep through at least a part of our flight.

By late afternoon we were served a small dinner.

IMG_5427.jpg

IMG_5431.jpg

The main dish was Sicilian pasta with olives, baked pasta with a similar pesto mix as I had had for lunch, which a sprinkling of cheese and a generous helping of olive slices. Again, very nice for airplane food.
The roll that came with it would have been nicer had it been warmed up a bit, but we were still on a plane and getting closer to our destination! :yay:

IMG_5429.jpg

IMG_5430.jpg

For dessert we were served fruit yoghurt. Now, I don't really like that particular brand, as it is very thick and does not have bigger junks of fruit in it. I was not impressed with the strawberry one, but the cherry one, which actually had a few small pieces of fruit was quite nice.

After we had had tea we were ready for landing and our adventure to start.

So after we had cleared customs we headed to the Rental Car desk and were presented with a car upgrade!

Yip, they had run out of convertibles and gave us a Camaro instead. Needless to say we were delighted. (and if you want to read the full story, just click on my trip report!)

A few minutes later we were on the way to .........

To be continued VERY soon!

Hurray! Hurray! You've started!:yay:

I looked out for you both at OKW but I never saw you!

Can't wait to read all about those lovely meals!

(Your aeroplane food looks a lot better than the stuff we had!)

Wow! 30 days of Disney! I am jealous...and intrigued! The airplane food does look a lot better than what I've seen in the past. Of course, most flights I take these days are considered too short to have a meal anyway. Looking forward to the rest of your report!

:welcome: Hi Shari!

Where did you stay while you were at OKW? We were in building 32 for the first part of our trip. It was SUCH a quiet corner and we had a lovely view of a pond and fountains.
There were lots of British visitors where we were and I always wore our DIS tags!

Maybe we can work something out next time! ;)

Can't wait for your next installment!!

:welcome: Glad you are here and I'll hurry with an update, I promise, but it is past 10pm here already and I need to get up early tomorrow.

I am in for the duration but please finish it by the time I leave on Nov 12 so I know what to eat and drink and what to stay away from :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Just kidding my friend! Give Tom a hug for me and our friends Kathy and Mark are on their way back home...I am so sad :sad2:

If you ever get away during the Fall we will meet you up there ;)

:welcome: So happy to have another reader!

With the long distance flight it really pays off to stay for a longer period of time and the summer is the easiest time for Tom to get 4 weeks off.
I can't agree with you more on the airplane food - we are real lucky to be able to choose Lufthansa, as their catering is still tip notch, even in tourist class.

Hi Nicki! SOOOOOOOOO happy to have the DIS food queen here! :woohoo:

And yes, I will finish AN update by November 12 - definitely won't be finished with the whole thing by then :rotfl2:

I can't believe Kathy and Mark are already on their way home! :scared1: Time has just flown by ...... it seems like they just left a few days ago!

Unfortunately mid September is the latest we can go to WDW. :sad2: My school schedule doesn't allow for anything later, but we have been discussing driving over to the Gulf coast for a day or two maybe next summer - if only I knew someone in the Naples area .............
