What decade of music do you consider the "oldies"?

50’s music was what my age group considered as oldies. But of course now the music I grew up with is thought of as the oldies for younger groups.

Agreed. Though some later 60's stuff would fall into the classic rock category, too (Rolling Stones, early Zeppelin, etc.).

Two primary ways to decide what is considered 'oldies' by society.

1. If you hear it in an elevator, it might be an oldie.

2. If Sirius/XM has changed the decade channel location/name, then it is definitely an oldie.
i.e., '60's on 6' is now '60's Gold' and no longer on channel 6.
Same thing happened to '50's on 5' many years ago. It is also now '50's Gold'.

1930 / 1940 - big band / swing / old country and western / those are to me old oldies - you know the classics - you’re Bing Crosby / Dean Martin / Frank Sinatra / Peggy Lee / Dinah Washington - your old time country western singers the original grand old Opry

As with everything music evolves each generation has their own music and thinks the other generations music is old
I enjoy listening to several genres of music and different decades - I love the classics I love jazz big band swing reggae Africana all different kinds - sadly the 80s was a long time ago so it’s considered old I don’t consider it old but others will - doesn’t really matter? If you enjoy it listen to it - as my kids say it’s not the oldies it’s the crusty nice slow form of torture but really I’m teaching them to evolve and learn something new and after a while one of them actually enjoyed listening to music from the 40s

I consider the 60s and before to be Oldies, but then I'm on the path to being an Oldie myself. I remember one time waxing nostalgic to my niece about how great Tower Records was, going through the stacks of 45s to find the latest hits from the radio. "What's a 45?" she asked me. I believe that was when the first silver hairs popped out of my scalp.

Last I looked at a Classic Rock station (on a jukebox) about 8 years ago they were playing things through the 80's. How can music I listened to in High School be "classic rock?"
