What deals R U finding for back 2 school clothes and did you clean out their closets?

Well, that'll teach me, I should've kept reading, someone had mentioned kidvantage being cancelled.

I have started shopping, with 5 kids to buy for I spread it out. I actually did most of DD's shopping last month, she went on a month long trip and needed stuff before she went. We did most of her shopping at Kohls because they seem to be the best place to find jeans that aren't low rise.

Last week I did an order at Old Navy for DS9, they had a 30% off sale (I think it was 30) so I spent about $53 and got a pair of jeans, 3 shirts, a backpack and lunchbox. He will need more jeans and Old Navy ones fit him the best, but he has shorts from this summer that he can start with.

Poor DS12, I bought him a bunch of jeans last year on clearance that I thought he would wear, but he didn't grow into them until this year. He is very small and I really thought he would have a growth spurt. I only need to get him a few age appropriate shirts (which are getting harder to find in his small size).

DS15 is giving me fits. For the past few years he has been wearing Gap slim jeans, adjusted all the way in at the waist AND with a belt. So now he has outgrown the kids' sizes and needs mens, do they make men's jeans that skinny that aren't actual skinny jeans?? We're going to go to the mall to try stuff on, but I don't know where to start. I don't think I'll have any luck at Plato's Closet.

All of the boys still need shoes, I haven't started on those yet.

TCP and Crazy 8 have some good codes out right now and I saw on a blog that Lands End has a 25% off code going on, too if that helps anyone.

We don't really need a whole this year. My very slim 13 year old son needs jeans and they are so hard to find in his size. I am not about to pay $40 a pair for them. He is about out of Children's Place and Old Navy sizes, but way too skinny for the Aeropostale etc.

We've had good luck with Gap until DS hit the mens sizes. They're still pretty expensive, but if you can hit a code or sale it helps.

DS is super skinny (no way he would wear skinny jeans!). It is not easy to find jeans that fit and are long enough! We usually order from Aeropostale online. They don't carry the longer lengths in the store. Look for jeans that are labeled "slim fit". Wait until they have a sale (obviously).

Plato's is worth a try - they seem to carry lots of mens' jeans.

Thanks, we'll try both of those then. :thumbsup2

Got DD12 a pair of jeans today off the clearance rack at Rue21 for $5. They mostly carry skinny jeans and/or distressed, neither of which work. But, I can find the regular stuff now and then :)

They have a deal going on shorts too, luckily some with decent length.

Went to a garage sale yesterday- the lady actually called me at work since they hadn't advertised and she knows I like it when she has her granddaughters' stuff. I filled a plastic sack with several items for $9.50 and brought it home to the girls to pick through. All but 2 items worked so that was a success.

We went to Salvation Army today. Again the girls got a ton of shirts. DD14 got a pair of Silver jeans, and a pair of Buckle jeans that are too short but we're going to make them shorts or capris. Still haven't found skinny jeans to suit DD11. She has a pair of Rue 21 shorts that fit nice. I should see if we have one around here, maybe their jeans will work?

We are not really looking hard. I like to buy blue jeans more when they are ready for wearing them due to growing and needing a different size each year.

DS will be joining a different group of students this year due to school closing/merging. Last year, towards the year of the year he asked for longer shirts due to the fact in PE his shirt would rise up and his belly would show - sheesh I wonder about him. That kid does not care about clothes. With that being said, he, DD and I went though his closet last week took out anything that would be too short, immature, or too funky. He lost all his disney underwear, he asked why? We shared "dude you must change in PE this year". We filled a bag and he really will not need more cloths to start, (I buy him stuff end of year clearance) He will need blue jeans in the fall. We did buy PE shoes on clearance Target. And at shoe carnival got brand name everyday pair for DD and a pair for DS less than $70.

DD will be high school this year, she is finally discovering clothes. We found jeans at Aeropostale $7.99. Camis to layer $3.99. Rest of clothes there 50% off. At debs a skirt additional 50% off, less than $8. Carson's had yellow dot brown cami and orange neonish jean jacket. We have a Farm and Fleet got blue jeans shorts there, cheaper than the other stores. Gap had 50% off entire store, found a sweatshirt, shirt and a clearance necklace. Mauries had clearance shirt for $6.95, yesterday I was too cheap to pay $22 for a cami from there.

So what are you finding?

I don't even THINK about buying 'back to school' clothes until around Columbus Day. DD wears her summer clothes (mostly shorts, tank tops and hoodies) until then because there's no air conditioning in our schools and it's too hot for 'fall' clothes until mid-October. Her birthday is in MidOctober and we buy most of her needs then (usually a couple tops, a couple new hoodies and a few pairs of jeans) because things are on sale by then. Shoes, socks, underwear, bras, etc. we buy as needed during the year.

As a general rule, men's trousers/jeans start at waist 28, though a lot of brands don't go smaller than 30. Most stores only sell 28 & 30 in their "Young Men" collections.

If he is thinner than that, the only source I know of is Dickies workwear. They go down to a 26 waist, and up to a 36 inseam.

IME, boys size 20 is a men's 28, and will normally have a 30 in inseam if pre-hemmed. Land's End will custom-hem some of their boys' pants to longer lengths.

American Eagle has jeans in a 26; Aeropostale has jeans in a 27.
