we're going to San Diego November 23 (Sat) to November 30 (Sat), and we want to drive up to DL one day. Does it hold true that Tues, Weds, Thurs will be least crowded, or does Thanksgiving throw that all out of whack?

I'm more interested in smaller crowds than the length of operating hours.

thanks!

The farther out you get the better. Wed/Thanksgiving will be slammed and the weekend will be unbearable.

UGH. That's not great news. We will be arriving at DL Saturday Nov. 23, and staying thru Wed., spending Thanksgiving with relatives, and possibly returning to DL for the day on Friday.....we are used to WDW in the off-season, hardly any lines at all....lets hope we don't hit TOO many crowds!

Disneyland has record crowds on Thanksgiving day. Your best bet is to get there when the gates open ride rides until it gets unbearable for you, then have lunch out side the park, nap/swim at the hotel, and return in the evening. You can get a lot done in the first few hours and I have also heard that if you get fastpasses and pass your window of time, the CM's will still let you in the fast pass line. So you may want to get some fast passes before you leave for lunch and use them in the evening, but if the park is that packed they may be out of FP's or the window may be several hours away. Remember, you can get a fast pass for Pirates and still get a fast pass for a different ride because Pirates isn't hooked to the "system".

You could also spend some time in DCA if DL gets too packed. DCA always has less crowds. And also, DCA and DL fast passes are not on the same system, so you can have a FP for a DL ride and a FP for a DCA ride.

The plus side of going that time of the year are the longer hours, less of the rides are down for scheduled maintence, and most of the eateries are open. Don't forget to make your reservations 30 days in advance for any sit down places in DL, DCA, hotels and DD.

I would say the Monday and Tuesday would be the less crowded days, just because many people may take the rest of the week off for a long weekend.

Enjoy the little touches of the park, use fast pass, and swim/nap in the afternoon, enjoy Downtown Disney and DCA. You will have a good time.

Thanks for the tip on the Pirates FP......it's the seemingly *little* tidbits of info that all add up to a more *productive* visit! :)

On the upside of all this (???? maybe - looking at the glass as half-full ????) our niece from Northern Ca will be joining us for a day or 2 (actual time is as of yet undecided) before Thanksgiving. She has a medical condition that entitles her to handicap services - perhaps that will cut down on some wait times as well?

thank you for the information! we'll hit DL Monday or Tuesday, get there early, use FPs, and hope for the best. I'm kinda bummed it's only one day....we did 10 days at WDW summer of 2001. oh well...not every vacation can be a Disney vacation! :-)

p-n.

We went 2 yrs ago Fri, Sat & Sun after Thanksgiving, it was horrible! We waited over an hour to take the monorail back to the hotel! Dumbo 90min (no FP), Small World 70min, Peter Pan 90min (no FP).

Definately go on Mon or Tues. Have a great vacation!! :teeth:

My DH is a teacher and his school gets the week of Thanksgiving off. We have made an annual trip to stay at DL for the past 4 years.

My family lives in LA area so we usually do DL BEFORE Thanksgiving. And then leave on Thursday to spend the Thanksgiving weekend with my family.
We have found that to be a great time to go.

For example last year's trip: on the Mon/Tues/Wed before Thanksgiving the park was busy, but not bad at all. And the holiday decorations/fireworks were awesome and really got me into the holiday spirit! We stayed at the Grand Ca on that trip and I think all in all it is my favorite trip to DL in all my years and visits.

If this years crowds will be like last year I suggest visitiing during the days before Thanksgiving Thursday.

I will be there during that time again too as I think it is a great time to go. Never been on Thanksgiving day or the weekend after - so I cannot comment on that.

How about the weekend before Thanksgiving? That's when I'm going and I'm just curious as to what the crowds will be like.

I am sure it will be busy - most weekends are - but nothing like the 4 day weekend after the holiday.
I was there last year at the weekend before and I dont remember it being really bad.

Yeah, I figured since it's the holiday season, it would attract more people, but I was just wondering if the crowds would be huge. Thanks so much :)

P-N,

We'll be there at the same time for our first visit to DL.
I know it'll be crowded but what the hey...I'm excited.
