Hi there

I am curious - what sort of protective covering do you find works best for those of you who have a GAC? I had a GAC my trip a few months ago & will require one again in Oct. I wasnt familar with the size of the card this past trip and I found by the end of my stay there, it had seen better days despite my attempts to keep it in a zip lock bag and away from water etc. Having to show the attendants and such made for a lot of pulling in and out of the bag.

thanks

This is so funny because I had the same question. I know they are just thick paper and are a bit of an odd size. I am wondering how to keep one safe for a 7 day trip. I have been trying to find a card carrier that might work.

momofkids -- I know there has to be something somewhere but I searched the DisAbilities Board and perhaps Im not using the correct catch phrase but I cant find one specific post that says what people use -- whats frustrating is that clearly a lot of us on here use them and I would think that there would be more info --- **** I see a bunch of people stop and read this post **** but yet only you have responded and said you too need the info.

Can someone please tell (us) what you have found to work well? Or send me a link of what type of lanyard plastic covering works for the size of the card?

I know the thickness is similar to an index card and I remember the card sort of being the same size as the smaller index card but I would hate to waste money on a zipper pouch that doesnt work

I always kept my son's in the font of my fanny pack. Never really worried about getting it wet- if we did a "water ride" I'd stick the whole fanny pack in my husbands back pack OR jstuff the whole fanny pack under my shirt.

We use a sandwich size zip-lock baggie. It is usually the only thing inside of the baggie so both sides of the GAC can be seen. I usually have it in my pocket so we have easy access to it.

Wal Mart sells self-laminating sheets I think in the office section or scrapbooking section. We use these for my DH's gac and it works great.

We just arrived home from our trip and I took the 5x7 self laminating pouch with me and it worked great. I had packed scissors for other things but the front desk would assist you. It kept it from crinkling and getting wet when it rained.

What we have always used , and still do over in the Sunglass section in Walmart they sell lanyards with plastic Id holders. There just a great size for the GAC and they zip up. I put my kids cards in there along with our phone number and grandmas phone number at home just in case we get seperated. They can wear them around there necks , put them in your bags or whatever. We have been cause in Fl monsoons and it stayed nice and dry. Plus you dont have to keep taking it out putting it back and it getting all crinkled up and hard to read. With 2 kids who are Special needs this has helped us out alot! I should also mention it has a break away strap so no worries there either ;)
here is a pic of what i am talking about http://www.amazon.com/Money-ID-Hold...403392&sr=8-8&keywords=id+holder+with+lanyard
you can also look for them in the luggage section . My DD9 has used her lanyard to hold her Disney pins so it worked double duty and she thought it looked "cool" that way

What people have ended up using using are fishing license holders. You can get them at sporting goods stores and places that sell fishing licenses.
The GACs are about the size of 3 x 5 inch index cards, so you can also find things in office stores (OfficeMax, Office Depot, Staples) that will fit.

We have used a piece of laminating material or clear contact paper on the back side only ( you may want to avoid laminating both sides so CMs can see it is a real card and not a copy). we have also used a ziplock bag with a piece of cardboard inside to keep th GAC from bending.

We just got home today. I started out with my son's GAC in a generic ID type holder on a lanyard. Then we got SOAKED at the studios, and it basically dissolved, even in the holder. I took what was left of it to guest services on our next park day, and they happily replaced it for us. Then I went to a pin trading location and bought one of their pouch thingies. They have them any place they sell lanyards. There are a couple of kinds. The one I got for his GAC is a vertical one (most are horizontal). It is clear on both sides, with a mickey logo thingie in the center on one side. It had a water bottle holder attatched (we didn't use it, I don't want a water bottle hanging from my neck) and a couple of clips. I got him badges with his name on it from Star Tours and Space Mountain that he clipped to those. The GAC fits in it very well folded in half. They were still able to see both sides of it without us needing to remove it, put the stamp on the totally clear side, and the number and dates are below the logo on the other side, and it had a ziploc type top so it did not get wet again. The rest of us got horizontal ones that are printed on one side for our KTTW cards, it makes EMH easy.

We were there in june, and I had always brought a box of baggies to keep the GAC in, but I didn't pack one. Instead I purchased a water proof camera bag in the camera shop in Epcot. It was the perfect size. Clear all around and the back had mickeys printed on it. It was 9.99, which was kinda pricey, but it was heavy duty and was perfect. We have been 4 times this year, so it's been and investment I think. The bag had a neck strap, but I cut that off.

DH keeps it in his pocket. If anything happens to it we just get another one. It's not like a ticket where you're only allowed to have one LOL. We've gotten another one whe we've forgotten it in the room too. We fold it in half so it fits easier.

I use a quart size zip loc bag, but I remember some other posters here used some sort of thing made for hunting licenses, they said it was the same size.

Ours often got wet from the August daily rains. Did not want to have to wait online again for a replacement, sometimes at MK the line can be long.

We have PAPs so my son's GAC is good for 2 months. I keep his in the back zipped section of my baggallini and get it out as needed. Usually he only goes on a couple attractions so his stays in pretty good condition throughout that 2 month period.

DH has some Reel Legend fishing shirts that come with a plastic for a fishing license. I will have to try that out!

The GAC for Universal changed, previously we had been there in 2010, we went back a few weeks ago and it's the size of their disability pamphlet. I kept it in the pamphlet. It just barely fit in the back zipped part of my bag.

I use laminating sheet. I bring a hole punch and make a hole to attach to my lanyard. It's the only way I can keep it out, ready, and not torn up during our stay.

I hold onto it in the lanyard along with the tickets-the plastic part of the lanyard zips across so it stays dry-it is a pain pulling it out so I will be looking for a plastic baggie next time and keeping it in our backpack.

In 2010 I used a zip lock baggie hooked to my lanyard for my son's card. This year we just used a card holder attached to the lanyard with a piece of tap as a closure. ((I made the mistake of seeing if he could be a big boy and hold his own lanyard this year. We didn't even make it from the car to the gate before he tossed into a drain.)) Both cards survived. But in the baggie, CM could see the entire card, while this year we had to keep stopping and flipping the card over so that the CM could see all the stamps.

I went to an Office Supply Store and bought one of the larger clear clipons that attach to a Lanyard. Easy peasy! Does not require me to fold it and I just clip and go. CM can flip and see everything.
