DH & I are taking 2 young grandsons to WDW in September. We are going to the MNSSHP for the first time. What kinds of costumes do people wear? Is it just the kids dressed up or the adults too? I need to do some advance planning here. Thanks for your help!

We have gone to MNSSHP 4 times and are getting ready for the 5th this year. It is a great time! I have seen just about any costume imaginable as long as its family friendly. It doesn't have to be Disney themed although many people do wear Disney costumes. And to answer your question ... no, dressing up is not only for the kids. There are tons of adults who dress up too. Two years ago our whole family of 11 dressed up in a Peter Pan theme. We had people in our group from 18 months old to 60 years old. We got lots of attention and just had a blast playing up the roles. We haven't come up with our costumes for this year yet but it really makes it more fun if you get the whole family in on the dressing up. I'm sure your two little grandsons would love for you to wear a costume too and it just makes the whole evening more festive. Good luck and hope you have a great time! :)

My group is going as the Mario Brothers & friends! I will be Princess Peach, but am still working on what to wear. I found this Peach costume online. Ignoring the expresion on the woman's face, do you think this is ok for Disney? I am worried it is a little too "short."

WOW...wish I could look like THAT! Seriously, it looks fine to me as long as it isn't way short on you. I will have to start brain storming now!

When we were at MNSSHP last year it was 92 degrees and very sticky. I brought costumes for my kids but it was too hot for them to wear them. If we go this year, we will put together some cute outfits that include tee shirts and shorts. ;)

The kids go as all kinds of different people. Some of the more common ones that we saw last year were Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, and any of the princesses. For the adults the most common that I saw were pirates. I saw pirates everywhere. My son went as Captain Hook and we were standing at the entrance waiting for my husband. Everytime a pirate walked by they saluted my son since he was Capt. Hook. He loved it and I thought it was pretty cool. Words of advice--make it a costume that they will be comfortable in. I would not use a mask of any kind if you can help it. They need to be able to move in it as they would their normal clothes and make sure that whatever the costume, they have comfortable shoes. For example, if you have girls and I don't remember if you do, and they go as a princess, then put them in either tennis shoes or ballet shoes. If you have boys, tennis shoes regardless of the costume. We're going back to the party this year and I have no idea what to wear. Enjoy!

hi
this is what i have been saying everytime this sort of thread comes up, halloween t shirts and shorts or trousers are far the best thing, it can be very hot. also the length of some of the dresses are worrying, children (and adults)can get caught or trip on the rides

Hey...thanks so much for the info. You are probably right about it being warm since we are going in September. I'm glad you mentioned that along with the safety issues. I was thinking of Wizard of Oz (since we are from Kansas) but I may nix that idea for something more simple and cooler. My dh wouldn't like that lion costume in 90 degree heat! LOL :goodvibes

Only since you asked... I'll add my $.02

It's not so much the length of this costume... but if I saw a gal wearing this costume with knee socks and CFM shoes (PM me if you don't know what this means), I would struggle to not wonder how much she was charging. ;)

But on the topic of costume ideas... I was toying with the idea of Peter Pan, Wendy, and TInkerbell for DH, myself, and DD (2)... but this forum is the third place I have read that those costumes are VERY common... and I hate being "common"! :rotfl2:

Soooooo.... Now, it's back to square one. Not sure what we're doing yet but I am SO EXCITED for our first MNSSHP!!!!

:lmao: No explanation is necessary! :lmao: I have several pairs of CFM boots left over from my college days, 40 pounds ago, pre family. If I wore them to WDW I would need Body Glide, several packages of Moleskin and quite possibly a wheelchair! :rotfl:

jbdreamer: In all seriousness, if you have the figure to pull that outft off good for you. :thumbsup2 If it covers all your pertinent parts and you opted to nix the school girl gone bad socks and trade the CFM's for ballerina shoes or Mary Janes, its pretty cute.

We went last year in September and it was very hot and humid so I was glad that I brought my daughter's Cinderella ballerina costume which was short with no real sleeves. We are going again this year on 9/29 and I have already warned my DD that we need to find her a light costume so she won't be too hot, I was thinking possibly Tinkerbell.

My kids are already planning and want to go as characters from Kingdom Hearts. Both boys want to be Sora, and DD wants to be Kairi (I found great costumes on Ebay). If I could figure out a way to do Donald and Goofy like they are in Kingdom Hearts, then my DH and I could go as them. Then hopefully I can talk my nephew (11) into going as Riku. We could be the whole clan from Kingdom Hearts!
