What color wrist corsage/boutineer for navy prom dress?

Now of course, OBVIOUSLY, I'm deferring all to my son's date - what she says (and her mom says, lol) goes. So if she wants pink and purple polka dot rainbow flowers, that's what will happen, lol.

But if your son's prom date had a long, navy prom dress, what colors would you coordinate with the corsage/boutineer? Just trying to get some ideas.

I "think" my son is wearing a black tux with white shirt, navy vest and navy regular tie. My son's GF is wearing a beautiful navy dress -- it's not a deep, deep, dark navy -- it's a beautiful, rich navy, if that makes sense. Some navys can be extra dark, almost black, but this is not what she's wearing.

I think that any color looks great with navy. Maybe try to use her favorite flower and then add navy in the bow or other accents.

I'd do yellow, deep pink(magenta) or red. Although pretty much anything looks giid with navy. I had a navy and lavender dress years ago and that was a nice combo too.

I would do hot pink, coral/orange, yellow or white. I wouldn't do red because I think it would end up looking too "patriotic" LOL

I know "exotic" flowers were in last year when I went to prom. So she may end up wanting something super bright. Seventeens prom magazine generally gives a good idea for what the average girl will pick. The boutineers for the guys were just the same flower the girl had and some ribbon.

Make sure she even wants one too. I know that may seem absurd to not want one but some girls are very sensitive to the bands they use to put them on your wrist or just flowers in general.

And I know it's a regional thing, but around here, girls don't wear wrist corsages...they carry a bouquet (like a spray) of a few flowers (3 - 5 or so main flowers), so I was going to say...make sure wrist corsages is what's customary for your area.

Oh, and I just love navy dresses! So many flower colors to choose from too, as others have stated. Love the idea of pinks, but REALLY love yellow.

To the person that mentioned a bouquet -- I'm in NC, and all of the prom pictures I've seen the past few years of his fellow classmates (via Facebook), all the girls wear wrist corsages. Now when I was back in high school, no one did wrist corsages and we carried bouquets, so it's switched. I loved my bouquet -- it was so gorgeous!

Like I said in my original post, it's totally up to his GF and her mother as to what we do for flowers. This is the first prom I've been involved in with my kids -- my son chose not to go to the prom last year, even though he had a date, but they chose not to go. This is a new GF and she wants to go, and I'm thrilled both of them want to.

My daughter won't be going until next year (sophomores can't go) so I'll be on the other side next year trying to pick out colors. I'm only there for my son to suggest possible color combinations and absolutely let them decide what to do. I'll also take a look at Seventeen Magazine and look at what the current trends are. Anyway, thanks for the ideas -- there are several that I wouldn't have thought of!!!

MIght be best to ask her what kind of flowers she wants (wristlet, carry bouquet) and if she has a particular favorite color or idea in mind...

Back in the day (1980 when dinosuars roamed the Earth!) we got bouquets to carry. My Jr.Prom I wore a green dress so my flowers were yellow and white (and of course the green of the stems/leaves) in a bouquet. My date was in a silvery-gray tux and the FABULOUS ruffled shirt! Sr.Prom I wore pink so flowers were shades of pink, again in a bouquet. My date wore a burgundy tux and a pink ruffled shirt.

Somewhere at my mother's house are some very scary pictures.....which should probably be destroyed!

What does the girlfriend look like-brunette/blond, etc. Maybe pick out something that goes with her coloring (if she is a red head, red flowers might not be the best choice, for example). You can do pretty much anything with Navy. I would go for more of a rainbow of colors personally. Also, I would rather be surprised with what my date picked for flowers vs telling him what to get--but then maybe that is "old fashioned".

It seems to be a mixed bag around here with flowers, some are wrists, some are pinned on, some are carried. I do know that most girls that get something to carry are generally regretting it by the end of the evening because it is just one more thing to carry while trying to lift your dress and walk .

Yes, and if you read my two posts I posted earlier, I mentioned that my son's girlfriend and her mother were going to pick out the colors of the flowers, not us.

I was just trying to figure out some color combinations that would look good together. You know, just in my head, trying to think what would coordinate in case they asked my opinion.

Our role is to pay for the flowers, not to pick them out. The girlfriend and her mom are 100% in charge of all of that -- the colors, the type, all of it.

These are Michigan colors. I would try to avoid that kind of bright contrast. Maybe soft, mint green.

Sorry golfgal, I re-read what you wrote and read it correctly this time - I totally read it wrong, lol. It's late and I think I need to go to bed. A great big DUH on my part!

As far as I know, his girlfriend and mom will be choosing all of the flowers, and I'm totally cool with that. I'm just glad my son's going to the prom this year! Thanks for your suggestions!
