I want to repaint my shutters and door this spring/summer. Both are green now and DH likes the green on both. I'm wondering of it's "normal" to have matching doors and shutters. I always thought they should compliment each other but not match.

The shutters have really faded and the door is beginning to peel. I don't know if they were once the same color or not. I think I will keep the darker shade on the door and go a shade or two lighter for the shutters.

I don't know that I have shutters!! Lol ... let me go look.

Nah ... I do!! :-) My house is kind of a emerald green color with cream/vanilla shutters and a deep red/cherry door.

We have a brick front house and tan siding on the other three sides. Our shutters used to be navy blue with a wood front door. The door kept peeling and looked awful. We sanded it down and chose a reddish-brown color (I want to say burnt sienna in a crayon) that complemented the brick. The shutters are now green-black. More black than green, but you do get the green from it. It looks nice and traditional.

The shutters and door match on our house. Kind of a smokey blue with a white house. I like it but didn't choose it--it was that color when we bought it.

Our house is beige, the shutters are black, and the front door is red.

Green...sort of a forest green. The house is yellow with white trim. It looks nice...at least we think it does.

Our front door and shutters are both cranberry colored. :)

Our house is gray with white shutters and a wood door.

When we built our house, the designer told us the door should not be the same color, for what that's worth. We have gray siding and red brick, black shutters and a blue front door. The door was originally gray, and I repainted it a couple years later -- much better. At our old house, we had tan siding, blue shutters and a red door.

Our door is oak and our shutters are white (siding is beige).

My house is white with green shutters and a red door, the ultimate CHRISTMAS house!

This pig was taken 2 weeks ago, and today is almost 70 degrees! :scared1:

I have no shutters as I am not a fan of them so when we built this house, I said "no shutters". So my windows are trimmed in white, my shingles are the most beautiful ever made in a faded brown color from Certainteed and my door is dark, dark brown like a Hershey bar!!

Good luck!!

our shutters and front door are both black. the house is a steely gray/blue color. we have a maroon-ish color on our front porch as the contrast color

Great question as I was just wondering this. We just had a maroon metal roof put on our house which is a pale yellow. Our maroon shutters can stay but we need to paint the doors. Any thoughts on a color?

We have a light brown house with dark brown shutters and a matching dark brown door. Our screen door and windows are all trimmed in white- can't think of what that is called but it adds a nice contrast. The shingles on our room also match the door and the shutters.

Our neighbors have a log cabin style house with dark green shutters matching door and their roof also matches the shutters.

OP here. So our siding is like a putty color. I wanted to change the shutters to blue, a dark blue but not navy, or a cranberry/wine and would like a deep red door. I was shot down on both because DH likes the color the house came with when we bought it. I can live with it, but wanted to put our mark on it.

It's kinda shady in this photo, so you really can't see the "spruce" green color.

DMickey28 and robinrs, thanks for sharing your pics. I had a hard time visualizing emerald green siding (work system blocks some images).

Our house doesn't have any shutters. The siding is pale yellow and the trim is white, including the front door. I'm not a fan. This spring the door will be painted, haven't decided on a color yet, so I'm open to ideas. We'll also be taking out that pine tree that hides our entry and plant something else in that spot.

What a cute house! Is it a cape cod, too?
