This is a spinoff thread inspired by the Favorite "Old" Movies thread. :goodvibes

I love classic movies, but I tried many times to sit and watch these old classics when they come on. I know I'm supposed to have seen them because they are so great. But, I just can't sit through them. Either I end up turning the channel, get suddenly ravenous & have to make a looooong, elaborate meal,

or I get an incredible urge to scrub the toilet right then.

Casablana
Citizen Kane
The Maltese Falcon
To Kill a Mockingbird

What films can't you get through? :headache:

2001: A Space Odyssey. I would rather shoot myself in the face than sit through that entire movie.

Agreed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never seen Casablanca either, but I wouldn't mind watching it.

Gone With the Wind doesn't do much for me either...

:thumbsup2

A lot of Alfred Hitchcock movies
Westerns There are a few good ones
2010 Space Odyssey either
Lot of the military ones

The thought of having to sit through all 4 hours of "Cleopatra" (the one with Elizabeth Taylor...no disrespect to her, but 4 hours is too long for a movie!) makes me want to curl up on the floor in the fetal position & cry/make wounded animal noises.

Some like it Hot - and anything starring Marilyn Munroe.
Singing in the Rain - never watched it all the way through yet.

I agree about 2001, a Space Odessey too - mega yawn!

Casablana
Citizen Kane
The Maltese Falcon
To Kill a Mockingbird
Gone With the Wind
Wizard of Oz
Sound of Music

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Anything Star Trek or Star Wars
Any of the Harry Potter movies
The Maltese Falcon
Its a Wonderful Life

I am risking my life to admit this but I can NOT sit through A Christmas Story. I have tried many, many times because I keep hearing how funny it is. I can't sit through more than a half hour before I am turning it off to do anything else.

No, me neither, and the Black and White movies I can't watch either.;)

I have an aversion to most "classic" (ie black and white) movies. I think most old comedies aren't funny (at least not by today's standards) and the acting in old dramas is just too melodramatic. However, DH won't watch:

The Wizard of Oz....he says the flying monkeys scare him.

I hate Bogart and will avoid anything with him in it. Ialso hate John Wayne, and don't have warm fuzzies for MArlon Brando.

Imzadi and OK! I'm right there with you guys. I really can't stand any classic movie (by classic I pretty much mean anything made before the early 70's) I just don't get why they get such praise as being such great films :confused3

I am so the opposite of you. Black and white movies to me are so much better. The comedies of old are so much funnier than today to me as well. Ever see Arsenic and Old Lace? Now that is funny. I dislike the poop and gross humor of today and I don't find it funny in the slightest. Maybe it is my age?

One movie I cannot sit through is Bus Stop. As a modern woman, it drives me nuts that the Marilyn character says no a hundred times and yet, she ends up on the bus with that cad.

OP I agree with your entire list.

I actually enjoy 2001 though, I know I'm in the minority LOL!

I DID think Some Like It Hot was laugh out loud funny. But most old comedies elicit a polite smile and chuckle at best from me.

I concur, this movie is HILARIOUS! I also love Harvey, and I enjoy all the old Marilyn Monroe movies, especially The Seven Year Itch!

I also prefer classic movies as well. Modern movies are just dirty for the most part Guys wanting to get some hot girl.

Classic movies were funny without the sex

I am not a huge fan of most classic movies. "Psycho" is one the few that I actually liked and would want to see again. But most just do not live up to the hype. There were a couple I watched while still in high school (Citizen Kane, The Godfather, etc) that I wonder if I would like more as an adult. If I attempt to watch an old movie, I do try to make it to the end. If nothing else I get the satisfaction of knowing where a pop culture reference or two comes from.

A little over 10 years ago I had a weekend to myself and I decided to rent some classics I had never seen. I watched "Gone with the Wind", "Breakfast at Tiffany's", "Casablanca", and "Dr. Zhivago." I actually enjoyed GTTW more than I thought. The next two were Ok, but I don't care if I ever see again. And "Dr. Zhivago" REALLY ticked me off. I wanted to drop the doc and Lara out in Siberia somewhere myself!

I feel the same way about all of the above--I have never been able to sit through them. I'd add Citizen Kane to the list too. And I don't know if it counts since it was made in the '80's, but I can't stand the Ferris Bueller movie. I didn't find it funny at all.

One of my favorite comedies ever is from the early '60's. It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. I watched it with my son a few months ago, and he loved it! Some old humor holds up. :)

Whew, it's not just me! :lmao: I have tried, honestly, but just can't make it through. My kids agree. I finally forced myself to sit through It's a Wonderful Life a number of years ago, but once was enough.
