My grandson has a 5-year plan for my house, he is doing the work for me. After 39 years in the house, it needed a facelift.
2021 was the kitchen since the one cabinet fell out of the wall and tried to kill me. We did all new floors and appliances too.
2022 was the living room, dining room, upstairs hall and entry with new floors, drywall, ceilings, and painting with a lot of trim work. The electrician wired the living room for lights and a ceiling fan and redid the exterior entry lighting. We added new carpets on the stairway and hallway. Then my grandson redid the bathroom with new fixtures and flooring, lights and painted the whole bathroom. The only thing not needed was the tub since we had Bath Fitters out in 2021 to change the tub to a walk-in shower. My husband has had 2 strokes and it was for his safety. We also got new living room couches and a credenza. I love my house now.
Of course, I loved the "Grandmom, we have a problem," every other day. My ceiling joists were not entirely even, there was some issues with wood rotting under the subfloor but a minor issue as it was a small area from the bathroom leaking and easily repaired, and some minor mold in the entry. A lot of bleach and a new subfloor handled that. What we still haven't figured out is why the shut-off valves for the bathroom pipes are between the living room floor and basement ceiling. I told him not to touch them. I have shutoff valves upstairs. He will deal with that when we get to the basement. The bird skull we still haven't figured out but think the cats were responsible for that. There was no body, just the skull. We did find some interesting things fall from the ceiling under my son's room, including a Walkman. Now I know how he cleaned his room.
I can't wait to see what the projects this year reveal.
