Someone please help this debate between DH and I. We have OKW and SSR as our home resorts. This year we would like to stay at BWV from Dec 3- Dec 10. We will have to wait until 7 months out to book BWV. Does anyone know what are chances are of getting a one bedroom at BWV if we wait to book 7 months out. I feel the one bedrooms will all be gone by then and we may loose out on a one bedroom at OKW. DH thinks there will be plenty of one bedrooms at BW yet at 7 months. I want to book OKW now for the one bedroom and be done but DH wants me to wait.

If you don't require a Boardwalk or Standard View, I would say your chances are pretty good. Remember, all 2-bedroom units at BWV are lock-offs, meaning they can be split into a studio and a 1-bedroom unit. Good luck.

Book OKW now (for your peace of mind) and switch over to BWV when the 7 month window opens up.

Much better chance for a pref view BWV than a std view. If no availability, then wait-list at 7 months.

Good luck.

Plans change, last year in August, I cancelled a 1 bedroom standard view BWV for the 3rd week in December. I had booked it at the 11 month mark. I think you'll be OK, but I would book at home, just to be sure.

Bobbi :flower:

PS. And then at 1 month out, I was scrambling for a studio, BWV and I did get it, seamless, no moving, PV.

ITA! Book OKW now - then you will have a place to stay if you can't get your room at the BWV. No need to even tell your DH - if the 1 bedroom is available, you can just cancel the OKW 1 bedroom. Since the BWV unit will require more points than the OKW, there really isn't any risk to doing this.

I think you will get your 1 bedroom at BWV (but probably not a standard or a Boardwalk view). Call day by day as soon as the 7 month winodw opens and use the waitlist if you can't get a day with that first call. You shouldn't have any trouble getting the Saturday or Friday night, but you may have to use the waitlist for one or more of the weekdays.

FWIW, I hope you do have to use the waitlist for a few of the days and that it comes through after just a short time. That way you can be right and your DH will learn to let you manage the points - unless HE wants to make all the arrangments for future trips, LOL :teeth:

Best wishes (and good luck, too)!

I would book now! We have a 1 bdr at BWV (our home resort) for Dec 1-9, boardwalk view. I called MS the first day I could and asked if I could wait until the check out date to book the whole trip. Ms told me to book day by day because the resort was filling up fast and I might not get boardwalk view if I waited. I was surprised by this even though I know it's a popular DVC time.
I would book OKW now and then just change it at 7 mos. I'm sure there will be members who booked BWV at 11 mos and want to switch to say, VWL at 7 mos. Also some people may cancel. Plus, if neither boardwalk view or standard view matters, you may be able to get water view (as another poster suggested).
Our friends own at BCV and always book OKW at 7 mos (without booking BCV at 11 mos as a back-up). I would be too nervous to do this, but that's just me. I'm a planner. :sunny:

As others have noted, put a backup plan in place right away and bide your time. We've waitlisted for BWV twice in the past 18 months and got in both times. One time was within a week of the trip though. Luckily we hadn't used points for that stay but reserved a room at AKL instead. That one we could cancel within a week and get our deposit back. IIR, there is a pretty hefty penalty for cancelling a DVC reservation within 7 days....

Anyone know how good the chances are of getting a studio at BW during this time at the 7 month window. I was just thinking that if I booked OKW now for a one bedroom and was able to switch over I may want to just get a studio to save on the points. Also can someone explain what the preferred, standard and boardwalk views all are. I believe that the boardwalk view is obviously of the boardwalk, but then again I may be wrong.

.. he has never had a problem booking what he wanted, when he wanted, where he wanted, 7 months out.

His home resort is Vero. But he and his family love the BW, and always stay there. And they've always gotten what they wanted -- if they were able to be a little flexible. If he could slide his vacation a day or two one way or another, it always worked out.

From my own experience, I'd agree. We've never had a problem 7 months out getting what we wanted.

But, better safe than sorry. I agree with the previous posters: book a backup, just in case. :sunny:

I just got a 1-bed room for May 3 nights. The 7-months is not a issue.

I don't think it is fair to compare May and the beginning of December. December fills up much more quickly.

ITA! May is one of the easiest times to book anywhere at WDW.

And FWIW, the "no problem what he wanted, where he wanted, etc. at 7 months " definitely does not apply if you want a Boardwalk view or a standard view at BWV. I wouldn't count on it for a Grand Villa or Beach Cottage either.

Best wishes-

I just got a 1 bedroom standard view at BWV. I originally booked OKW at 11 mons. Then called exactly 7 mons. from my checkout day and they booked it and cancelled my OKW ressie. It was the same points and we're going for the food and wine festival in oct. so I wanted the epcot location

LOL, Denise - I knew as soon as I posted that someone would post that they got one. I know it can happen, but I still think it is unusual and not to be counted on.

Seems like this board gives the impression that it either always happens at 7 months or closer (no problem) or that it never happens.

IMHO, anything is possible, but somethings are not probable. BW and standard views are more likely to fall in the "not probable" category.

Anyway, congratulations - I'm sure you'll enjoy your room at the BWV!

Best wishes -

I was really surprised that I got it especially during food and wine. We would have been happy to stay at OKW we love it there but this was a great surprise . Its always a good idea to try but have a backup plan because no matter where you stay its Disney
