What can you tell me about Yorba Linda?

My family and I are thinking about DL in March 2012 and I have just begun looking at hotels etc. We have been twice before, the first time we stayed at the Holiday Inn which in Just by the Santa Ana Freeway and the second time my DH had business in Irvine so we commuted from that area. I am thinking about Yorba Linda because I see a phenomenal deal (hotwire) on a suite hotel that is either the Marriott Residence Inn or the Ayres, both I would be super happy with. My question for all you SoCal experts is what is Yorba Linda like? Is it safe, suburban or the wrong side of the tracks or something in between. I dont mind the 17 miles we would need to drive to get to the parks because it is not all we are doing in the area but I will look at Anaheim proper if Yorba Linda isnt what I think it might be. Obviously what is motivating me is price, about a 1/3 less than the same type of hotel in Anaheim but I also like the idea of being in a smaller community and seeing everyday California, less touristy shopping and restaurants etc-any Yorba Linda feedback is greatly appreciated!!!

Yorba Linda is definetly a suburban city. There are some really nice areas...and some not as nice areas, but that's typical of almost everywhere. Also keep in mind that it may be 17 miles from DL but drive time from that area can be crazy! We're talking stand-still-freeway-traffic crazy. :scared1:

Thanks so much for your answer, I never even considered traffic! Distance soesnt bother me but sitting bumper to bumper when I know I could be strolling though the gates would drive me bonkers! I guess I will spend a little more and stay closer-thanks again...

If you're looking for a small safe community, look at Cypress. It's about 12 miles from Disneyland but in the other direction. Their hotels are on Valley View and Katella and you can take Katella straight to Disneyland. There are close restaurants, a Target, and it's a good area. Google it. :goodvibes

It's more like 7-8 miles, about 20 minutes. I work in Cypress and do think it's a good option if you don't mind not being "right there" around DL. The hotels tend to cater to the companies in the industrial parks between Knott Ave and Walker Ave, and there's a large assortment of fast food places besides restaurants like Olive Garden, SuperMex, Chili's, and nearby Katella Deli and Souplantation (aka Sweet Tomatoes).

Better to over estimate than under. I grew up in Cypress. Thanks.
