I have an ADR for dinner at Kona Cafe. I have never eaten there. How is the food, and the atmosphere in the restaurant?

We stayed at the Poly so we ate there twice. Food was excellent! The crab cakes are wonderful for starters as are the sticky wings. It's a bit noisy as you are basically upstairs in the Poly lobby, but not terrible. Tikiman's site probably has some photos so you can check out what it looks like. The Pina Colada was a little taste of heaven! Enjoy!

Thanks for the info. My ADR isn't till 8:55 PM, that's all I could get, so I don't think it will be that noisey. I am going to try calling back, maybe I will get lucky and get something a little bit earlier.

For a 1 TS credit meal, this has some the best food. Very tasty, nicely spiced. We went last year so I cannot remember the specifics of what we had, but all 7 of us really enjoyed the food.

The atmosphere is so so. If you take a look at the restaurant while it is empty, you will think it is some kind of coffee cafe. They do have a coffee bar there and it sort of sits out into the upper level of the Polynesian. You can sit there and watch all of the people waiting to get into 'Ohana!

We enjoyed our meal and I don't think you will regret going.

Just back and ate at Kona on Friday May 26th - and let me say it was one of our best meals.

I had the filet Mignon with mashed potatoes and asparagus (it was one of the few restaurants to serve a vegetable with the meal) and my mom had the macadamia mahi mahi and both were outstanding.

Although we had a little difficulty being seated (they misplaced the ticket they write up saying how many, allergies, etc.) so instead of the 20 minute wait they told us it was almost an hour. And I had to insist that they put my mom's allergy (crab) on the ticket whereas most places asked specifically if there were any allergies.

We went easter and had 3 teens. While not on the dining plan we did have the dde card which helped. For appetizers we had the crab cakes, small but good, and the kona chowder which was delicious. For the main courses, dh and I had the terriyaki beef. It was wonderful, 2 of the ds had the coconut almond chicken. I thought it looked pretty small and they did not care for the salad which accompanied it on the place. I think because the dressing was already on it. You might want to ask for it on the side. They did pick the strawberries out though. Other ds just got a cheesburger I think. The bread and oil oil for dipping was fantastic. We had 3 loafs. For dessert. The 2 ds got the kiddie cones, I got the banana creme brule, very good and one ds had the cheesecake I think. O.K. but not great. We will go back for sure. Sea Spray has a great picture of the filet. That is what convinced me to get it.

my DW and I have eaten there numerous times and have been pleased with each meal. the restaurant itself is fairly nice. the servers were friendly and the food is tasty :teeth:

the restaurant is located in the Great Ceremonial House, which is the main building at the PR. The other main restaurant, O'Hana's is right next door along with a lounge that seems to house the spill over from O'Hana's as they wait for tables. Also, people getting off the monorail stroll by and look in the restaurant, as it is fairly open so this can create some excess noise.

all in all, kona's is a good restaurant and we recommend it for a dinner :)

We ate there on Thursday before we flew out (on a whim) and it rocked! :woohoo: We're actually planning on staying at the Poly and taking friends and family there for our trip in October!

We didn't have ADRs. We were able to wait for about 20 minutes in the early portion of the dinner hours (about 4:30-5:00) and be seated quite promptly. We had jus tenough time to explore the gift shop, go to the bathroom, and check out the lobby. We told our server that we were on our way to the airport and she did an excellent job ensuring that everything was promptly ordered and served.

DH ordered the steak. He loooooved! He's picky and absolutely loved the sauce it was in. DBIL ordered the prime rib. He said it was quite good although he wanted it medium (as he ordered) and it was served well. I ordered the Asian noodle dish and it was yuuuuumy! Save room for dessert! We peeked up at the counter and did the, "Oh man!" We sat right along the little fence thingy and found the atmosphere to be wonderful! We were inthe restuarant, but we oculd aslo see and hear the water and fiolage in the lobby.

It's a thumbs up and one we can't wait to return to!

Like the food and love the desserts but there is only 1 waiter there that is really good. All our other (many) times the service was not very good.

This used to be our #1 choice (until Boma). The deserts are EXCELLENT, they are award winning! However, last trip we had a really grumpy server. I don't know what his problem was??

We love :lovestruc Kona! We tried it for the first time on DDP Jan. 05. We've now eaten there at least 5 times (in 3 trips!) All for dinner!

We too thought it looked like a coffee shop the first time we went and almost left-I'm so glad we didn't! The last time we used it on the DDP we went twice for dinner. The first time everything was good-the second time it was great! Our server informed us we could add scallops to the filet (inc. on DDP)! We did-yummy! Also, my DD6 makes her meal out of my appetizer-sticky wings. Since you get so many, I'm able to have some too!

Can't say enough good things about Kona!

Thanks everyone for your reviews. I am looking forward to eating there. I just hope I can get an earlier time. 8:55 is a bit late, although it is just DH and I.
