I consider myself a pretty decent cook :stir: I will admit to making some recipes that come out :crazy2: to say the least but for the most part things are at least edible (I get compliements on several dishes).

The one thing I just cannot make no matter how many different ways, different pans, etc. is brownies - even from a box mix! They are always under cooked or over cooked - but the batter sure tastes good :lmao: I have a GF who no matter how she tries cannot make a Turkey and she is an awesome cook!

What can you NOT make or families wish you wouldn't :lmao:

I bake quite a bit around the holidays, and I've always been told that I do it quite well...but, I simply CANNOT make decent edible sugar cookies. If I want them, I have to use the slice'n'bake kind.

I was gonna post the exact same thing!

I'm a pretty good cook, and a baker of sweet goods, but I just can't bake bread. I can't get the texture right.

I would probably say homemade rolls. I just started learning how to make them and they never come out the way I want. I just have to keep practicing and experimenting until it comes out the way I like them to.

As for your brownies, maybe you should add just a little bit more water than the box says (maybe 2 table spoons). Make sure you test it for doneness with a toothpick. If the toothpick comes out a little brown, but not wet, take it out the oven. They should be nice and moist.

Should we start a support group?? :rotfl:

I mean, we've obviously been deprived of the fun and frivolity and holiday bliss of DECORATING said sugar cookies! :teeth:

I make the most amazing decorated cut-out cookies, and other baked goods. I get requests for them all the time.

But I for the life of me cannot make pie crust! What is it about pie crust that eludes me? :confused3

I cannot make sunny side up eggs. :teeth: I think it's because I prefer the yolks hard and so does dd so I just never learned. DH prefers them sunny side up so he's in charge of making them. He does a fabulous job--even better than my mom so now he makes them at her house, too.

I also cannot make my grandmother's butterscotch pie. I have the recipe but I think she left out something important--it always comes out soupy. She didn't use a written recipe when she baked it herself and she wrote it down for me off the top of her head. She's passed away since then so my mom and I keep experimenting trying to get it right. It tastes good--it's just runny.

Gravy, any kind :sad2: I just cannot seem to get it right. And :thumbsup2 on the slice-n-bake cookies--my kids favorite kind :joker:

I screwed up Jello. That was the beginning and the end of my days in the kitchen.

Actually I can make a FEW things, but not many. I just don't have the patience.

I cannot for the life of me make gravy. Sad isn't it? Baking intimidates me all together, so I stay away from it.

That is one of my signature cookies! Someone bake my brownies and I'll do the Sugar Cookies! :thumbsup2

I can't make meringue for pies.

You have to keep mixing the egg whites and cream of tartar until it becomes stiff. If you stop too soon, it comes out flat.

Ok here goes-RICE. I can not for the life of me make good rice not even instant. As for pie crust, gravies & fried chicken they all fall into that catagory of you can either do it or not. I used not be able to make Tollhouse cookie bars, they were hard as roocks but them my Gma got me a insultlated bar/jelly roll pan & now they turn out great.

My GF make the best brownies she does cake like & beats the eggs with the oil, water before adding it to the mix.

Thanks! Maybe I'll give it another try. I've been craving coconut cream pie.

Pie crust. Can't make it, can't roll it out, can't even crimp the edges of the pre-made bought ones to look attractive. At Christmas my sister does the crusts and I do the fillings.

Now for brownies--undercooked is better than over cooked anyday. But if they are so undercooked as to be mushy and impossible to cut you refridgerate them and eat them like fudge. :thumbsup2

Megingue-- Williams-Sonoma sells a powder wherea ll you do is boil some sugar and water together and beat in the powder. Easy and good.

Fried Chicken!!! It's the only thing I've ever had to literally throw out the door! lol
