It seem like The Fort is the Mecca of all campground, at lease for my family so far.:worship:

Now that my family and I have been there, we haven’t camped at any campground anywhere that comes close to the cleanliness, well landscaped, safe feeling, with plenty of on site activities to keep the whole family busy.

What I was wondering, is there any other campground that you could say is as nice or similar to the Fort? We live in the Northeast, so any suggestions in that area would be great, but all are welcome. Please include links if that is allowed.

Hey piper ~ the only one that we've found up here in New England that comes (relatively) close is Normandy Farms in Foxborough, MA. It's just down the street from Gillette Stadium/Patriot Place, and is only about 10 minutes away from a VERY nice Bass Pro Shop complex.

If you're looking for peace and quiet, this is NOT the campground for you, as the sites are pretty close to one another, and there are TONS of activities going on most of the time. But, if you're looking for a "happenin place", you might want to try it! HTH :)

I've limited experience but the KOA that I stayed at in '08 was nice. If I were to rate FWC a 5, then the Cordel, GA KOA would rank at a 4.5.

Except for the Fort, we've only stayed in state parks from Louisiana to Florida. While most of them are very nice, secluded, quiet, peacefull...none of them come close to the Fort!! I enjoy them with all my heart, but its a completely different kind of getaway than the Fort is, and Im glad. The keeps FW special for us.

I WOULD like to hear of some other campgrounds that might would make me say "Wow...now THAT was almost as good as FW!!!" though.

There is a place in Live Oak, FL called Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. www.musicliveshere.com. It's about 700 acres which IIRC is the same FW says it has. They rent golf carts and you can bring your own as well. There is a trail fee of $30 which covers the length of your stay IIRC. It's $60 on holiday weekends and $100 when they have music events. They have tons of campsites. Only one loop but the main drag from the entrance to the Suwannee River has lots of sites on both sides of the road. They also rent cabins that are similar in size to the forts. They also have a horse barn where you can keep your horses and they have sites right there as well so you can be close to them. They have a canoe outpost that will take you up river and drop you off with canoes and kayaks. They let you bring your own as well and just charge you the drop off fee. From what I hear the managers of FW and this place visit each others place for new ideas. Not sure if that's true but I hear Jean Gallagher has been there.

Okay - you know how I hate to go off topic, but I have a story I gotta tell you. When I was a kid, my uncle had this old nag horse - it was pretty old and slow. Well, we used to ride it bareback. What nobody told me was 5 pm was dinner time for this horse, and she never missed a meal. I was out in the field with her about a mile from the barn kind of loping along when she stopped, her head shot up, ears turned and she bolted full gallop to the barn - she knew when 5 pm was. She left me on my butt to walk back to the barn. I had no idea that old horse could move that fast - all I could see was butt, tail, hooves and dust.
