Who is the best company to buy resale contracts from? I am new to this and have done a lot of research just not sure who would be best.

Don’t look for the best company, look for the best contract. Keep an eye on all of them until you find the one you want.
We’ve only bought through Fidelity, but that was because they had what we were looking for at the time. We had no problems with them so I would recommend them, but I would happily have gone with someone else if the right contract had come up.

Thank you! What would you recommend for someone doing a first time purchase, one contract with a lot of points or 2 smaller contracts?

That’s quite tricky really. I would probably recommend 2 smaller contracts, if you can find the same use year. If you go too small you may pay a premium though. It’s also doubles up on all of the additional costs so you could end up with fewer points overall if you’re sticking to a strict budget.

I agree with Noodlez on the best company - there are many. You should look for the best contract that fits your needs/desires. The second questions has multiple layers and possibilities that you need to consider. Try this great sticky at the top of the forum - it is a great resource: https://www.disboards.com/threads/the-dvc-resource-center-updated-november-2019.3592815/

We used Fidelity and it was a great and very speedy experience!!! Everyone is RIGHT about the contract though.......find the right contract!!!☺️☺️

I would buy one contract. You are going to pay a premium for small contracts. so you are just paying more and gaining little. If you are buying direct - then you break it up since you can GET the premium should you sell

I wouldn't buy a very large contract though. If I was buying 300+ points, I'd probably prefer to buy two 150 point contracts, or a 200+ 100 contract on the resale market

Awesome thanks for the info! Very helpful. I have been looking at fidelity as they seem to be priced the lowest.

There are a couple advantages to buying a large contract resale:

First, you can typically buy larger contracts cheaper on a per point basis. The amount of people looking for a 300+ point contract is smaller so there’s less natural competition.

Second, your closing costs are spread out over a larger number of points, making the cost per point smaller still.

You of course need to want to have that many points for it to matter but I wouldn’t buy half the points you ultimately want just to try to get comfortable with the process. It’ll cost you more money and take more of your time.

Personally, I wouldn't want to go over 200 points for a resale contract, as when the time comes to resell, the market pool looking to purchase from you also smaller. It's all a wash if you got the larger contract cheaper, but expect it to seller for cheaper per point when you do need to sell for any reason.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do, but I believe it's best you read, read, and keep on reading some more until you feel comfortable on what to purchase, or if you even purchase at all.

Great3

It really is completely a personal preference. My first contract was for 400 points at BRV (VWL). I plan to have that contract until it or I expire - I love it. I have since bought five 200-250 point contracts. I had no problem selling two of the contracts, one 230 and one 250, at the current market rate (I bought two other contracts to replace them to consolidate everything into one use year). Sold both in less than two weeks and both only had partial current use year points. If you plan to go to Disney once or more times per year, larger contracts are the way to go. If you really are worried about resale, then purchase smaller contracts.

Bottom line - buy what you can afford, where you want, and for how many points and/or contracts you want.

I bought 3 contracts in the last month. 30, 50, 150

All 2019 points and all were basically the same price. I actually got the 30/50 slightly cheaper.

If you can buy smaller contracts they will be easier to sell if you decide to. I didn't plan on getting the extra 150 for a couple years but my parents were all in and decided they will be going with us most years.

If you keep your eyes open you can find good deals on small point contracts as well.

Downside to smaller contracts is if it's not the same owner (mine were) you might only get one of the contracts you wanted and now you are left waiting for the right contract. I put the requirement I get both contracts in my offer.

One thing to remember a $130 with 2019 points is better than $120 without 2019 points. As long as you can bank or use them before they expire.
