What are your experiences with booking a GTY room on the Fantasy? Did it turn out that the room turned out to be better than the GTY you booked?

We booked a GTY Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom so we don't know what type of room we will get or where it is on the ship until 2 weeks before. From our understanding, it's possible that we could get upgraded to a better room.

I think the sailing is pretty full (Feb 20-25th, Fantasy) so I don't know if we would get upgraded. I just hope for a room on the 7-9 level (again, probably wishful thinking).

I have booked a few guarantees throughout the years and 50% of the time we have gotten an upgrade from a regular veranda to the deluxe family and if booked two were given connecting rooms or next door. The one time I booked OV GTY I got an ocean view not a veranda. I have never booked an inside GTY.

We have booked Guaranteed rates several times.

Once we booked an Ocean view and ended up in a family Veranda. At the time we were sailing with friends who already had there room assigned before we booked. They were in a veranda and we just asked to make sure we were at the same table for dinner.
When we gave their booking info to our travel agent to make the dinning arrangements not only did the put us at a dinner table all together they also ended up assigning us in a room near them.
That was very nice of Disney to do this even though they did not have to. I guess it is called Pixy Dust.

This was also as we were coming out of the Pandemic so the ship was far from full.

Another time we booked a Guaranteed Ocean view and about a month from sailing we got our room assignment, the cruise line ended up putting us in a Special need cabin that must have not been needed.

We knew they could move us at any time if the cabin were needed and that was fine with us. I kept checking right up till the day before sailing and they never moved us so I guess the cabin was not needed.

The cabin was twice the size as a standard cabin, it had a regular height bed and dresser however it had a single roll in bathroom/shower.

We loved the cabin size so much on one of our next cruises we specifically booked the non Special needs version double size Ocean view cabin.
This is the one with the wall between the bed and the couch.

On that cruise we were with friends and our cabin was the place we all meet for drinks before dinner.

Most other Guaranteed cabins we have booked have been in the category we expected.
Sometimes you just get lucky, as long as they have the ability to upgrade you if possible.

The two time I listed above we never asked for a cabin upgrade. The one time we only asked to be at the same table for dinner as our friends.

There are no guarantees other than what you agreed to when booking a cabin classification at a special rate.

We have a friend who booked a Guaranteed cabin, did not like the location when they got their room and asked to be moved. Unfortunately they were unable to move them, however they still had a good time on the cruise.

For the discount that is the chance you have to take. I guess it is based on how full the ship is.
