What are your expectations of your Child's aunts and uncles?

I am part of a very large extended family. I have about 16 Aunts and Uncles, and about 22 cousins. We never did gifts with Aunts/Uncles or cousins. Except if they were our Godparents. However, we did all see each other relatively frequently, so I have a good relationship with almost all of these people.

My fiance has a newphew, and his sister expects him and his other sisters to be extremely involved with his life (he is currently the only nephew/child in the family). They are always there for holidays/bday (and always with gifts), and sometimes for just random things. But sometimes she gets upset when they can't drop everything else in their lives to be there.

This year my fiance and I bought his nephew a ticket to a local amusement park ($20) for Christmas and thats it. We will take him in the summer, and pay for lunch and maybe a souviner and have a great time all together. (I was so tired of spending $50-100 on things he uses like 2 times and then gets tossed in the toy bin!)

I am an aunt and have been for 26 years. We are from a small family and my nephew does not have a relationship with his father or any of that family. I have been to every birthday party, special events at school, and any other thing he has had in his life. I spoiled him rotten. I always was there with a large gist and also giving of my time and myself. My sister is not as involved with my daughter as I was with her son on a daily basis but she is at every "big" function..birthdays,Christmas, recital etc. My dh has a sister that my daughter doesn't really know. I am very involved with my best friends kids too. My nephew who is 26 is very close to my 5 year old since he has been living with us for about 5 months.
