What are your Bucket List Races, or Standout Races you've done!

I did Chicago this weekend. It was really neat course and it's very flat. The crowd support was really good. Not quite as crazy as NY but much better than pretty much any other marathon. It was really good.

So far I've done.....

Shamrock Half Marathon VA Beach

Congrats on Chicago. Did you enter through lottery?
How did OBX compare with Shamrock? Did full and half at Shamrock and did the Flying Pirate half which I think comprises the first half of the marathon?
Is the bridge really as bad as some people say?

Which Medoc is that? Is that the Marathon Du Medoc in France or the Medoc Mountain in NC? I'm doing Medoc Mountain this weekend its consistently ranked one of the best endurance races on the east coast but it's small at less than 500 people so I'll be shocked if it makes your list.

The one in Bordeaux. 26.2 miles of wine, cheese, and champagne & oysters. We're running this next year, doing two weeks of wine and champagne tasting, and then running the DL Paris half.

New York City Half - pretty cool running through Time Square
Boston's Run to Remember - Run through Boston and along the Charles River on Memorial Drive, gorgeous view on Mass Ave Bridge.
Boston Half - Ran it today, not a fan.

What made you not like the Boston Half? The route? I was planning on signing up for the Distance Medley next year (I did the 5k & 10k this year) so I'd love to hear your feedback.

Don't really have any bucket list races. I'd like to qualify for Boston, but don't really have any desire to run the actual race.

The Dopey kind of is my bucket list race and I am fortunate enough to say I have run it twice and, hopefully, have many more to go.

That's true, mostly because if I'm going to fly halfway around the world for a race, I want it to be for at least a marathon. That said, I do want to run Beach to Beacon at some point because it's in my hometown.

My friend did Beach to Beacon this year. I would love to do it but it always falls right as my son goes back to school. Maybe once he goes off to college in 10 years...

The OBX course is really flat so the bridge seems big comparatively. I would say that it's probably harder than shamrock but still easier than most. The section on flying pirate on gravel is as hard as the bridge. Flying pirate is one of my favorite halfs.

I was fortunate to get into both Chicago and NY through the lottery. Chicago was easier than NY.

that sounds like a great trip. 26.2 miles of champagne and cheese might be a little more fun than 26.2 miles looping a small mountain in eastern NC. I wind up on your medoc marathon's website a lot when I look up info for our local medoc marathon.

I did the Medley this year because I didn't get into the Half last year and signing up for the Medley guaranteed a spot. I think I wasn't fond of it mainly due to the route borders around my town (Brookline) so it didn't feel special. The last 4.5 miles was running around the perimeter of Franklin Park on terrible pavement. The experience maybe different for someone that don't usually run around Jamaica Way / Pond (one of my usual routes) as it is a beautiful area. Personally I prefer races along Charles River, that view takes my breath away every time.

As someone whose run included 3 miles on the Esplanade yesterday, I agree with you about the views. And I love running around the Jamaica Way as well.

Was the pavement around Franklin Park terrible due to construction or does it seem to be normal (I know they're doing construction over near Franklin Park). Was it a hilly/difficult course in general? And would you ever do it again or don't feel the need to?

So for someone not really used to the area it might not be bad.... Except for the pavement portion.

Just running along the Charles river in the morning is a pleasure. It can be intimidating because so many of the runners are so fast, but the views are amazing. Thousands of college kids run there every day when the schools are in session.

I'd probably add the Vegas Rock N' Roll Half to my list. I've heard the full can be somewhat brutal in the dark through the desert but would like to experience a run on the strip at night. The half sounds perfect for that. And it would be nice to have something left in the tank to make it to at least 10 p.m. that night instead of my usual 9 p.m.

Only marathon I have done thus far is the WDW one. Wife and I are running the Chattanooga Seven Bridges Marathon this weekend. which I have heard good things about.

We're thinking of trying to get into the Marine Corp Marathon next year. Summer training this year was difficult, so I'm not sure I want to go through that again next year.

Bucket list races for both of us would be:

Athens Marathon
New York Marathon

For you or anyone else that's done detroit what else did you do while you were there. We do a no kids couples only, non Disney runcation once a year. This year we did the Chicago Marathon, last year we did NY. Is there stuff to do in Detroit for a weekend trip outside of the race?

For the un named race in Australia City to Surf is outstanding. Its a huge marathon, but the course is a little challenging. Also Sydney's a great city.
