Valentine's is a busy day here it's also my DH birthday. But my DS is 2.5 now and so I am planning some fun stuff for him for that day. I am going to make Watermelon cutouts of hearts with oranges as the tips of the spears for breakfast, Jello Jigglers in the shape of Hearts for lunch, and then our dinner dessert is a cake that I have searched everywhere to get the ingredients together for. I am also making heart shaped Rice Krispie Treats to give out at dinner for a take home treat.

Now for the candy and toys I am getting a mailbox and putting all of his goodies in it. I am going to decorate it with his name and hearts, something I can use year after year to put his goodies in. I got him some cars, candy little goodies.

I can't decide what to do for dinner since my whole family will be here and I would love any and all ideas or traditions that you make or do for your little ones or family for Valentine's Day.

Every year I give my kids a huge mylar helium balloon of something specific to their interests. They're getting a little old for that, but my DD still kind of expects me to keep up with the tradition so I think I will get them that and some candy this year.

Besides that, they will get their valentines from friends at school, I think that's enough.

Well, since this is a budget board I can admit this.....the highlight of Valentine's Day is waking up on the 15th and going and buying all the candy at 50%-75% off!!!!

I am about out of my after Christmas 75% candy, so it is about time for more!

I get the large red foiled hershey's kisses from Xmas at target 90% off take them out of the box and pair it with other xmas goodies I got there ie packs of lip glosses, nail polishes, body lotions and put it in a $1 gift box and tada-I'm done!

After V-day I stock up for the easter baskets!lol!

I got heart shaped baskets that I will fill with candy and a card. I am hoping the action figures they have been bugging me about come in time, those will go in the basket along with a frog/heart helium balloon from $ Tree. I bought myself a stair stepper and the results will be DH's belated VD gift.

For DD (3) and DS (4) I get them each a Mylar Balloon.
We will probably make heart shaped cookies too...

I have three older boys...I think they all have their own Valentines now...

i picked them up a wekinz after x-mas for 75% off at a hallmark store at the mall - or maybe its a lil kinz! either way they will each get 1 and probably bake some cookies..

I got each girl a pen/pencil combo covered in musical notes. Odd, but they are both passionate about music! I also got each of them a small candy item. We always do belgium waffles with strawberries and whipped cream for Valentines Day dinner and then play a game together as a family afterwards.

Hey my DH's birthday is Valentines day too!! My kids are getting a little older so all they'll be getting is boxes of chocolate from Malley's. I'm spending a little more on their chocolate since i'm not buying all the trinkets to go with it.

DD and her teacher are having flowers delivered to their classroom during their Valentine's Day party. OK, ok...before I get flamed for not being budget friendly... I work for Publix. I will buying the flowers at the base cost (what we sell them for, retail). I bought vases from the dollar store, Mylar stick balloons from the $ store and the best part. Since I am the florist (we don't have an official florist and I have been cross-trained)I get to make the delivery "on the clock" !!!!! :goodvibes

Wow, I guess I am not exactly budget on this day. DD is getting a Karito Kid, neices and nephews are getting little barbie/toy story goodies and everyone young and old gets cookies.

DD will also get a card/little treat in her lunch the Friday before since she is too old for class parties now.

I admit, I am a sucker for any chance to spoil family.

I so love the idea of getting the red kisses at Christmas on sale and doing them for VDAY! My son LOVES kisses so I guess I missed it this time..but I will be looking for next year...and I am so doing the going for Easter Basket stuff when the VDAY stuff goes on sale...LOVE that...

I LOVE the way you think! :thumbsup2

We do something similar...
Heart shaped pancakes with strawberry topping and whipped cream for breakfast....
sandwiches for lunch cut out with a heart shaped cookie cutter,
for dinner...homemade heart shaped pizza, red jello and strawberry cheesecake for dessert (nothing fancy, just jello brand from a box).

After dinner, the kids have their scavenger hunt. The clues are written in white crayon, so they have to either paint over them or use markers, to make the clue appear. The kids never get too old for this, because at the end, they know their reward is a little goody bag of Valentine treats from Mom.

For my little Valentines, I got my DS (12) an I Tunes gift card, for the two younger ones 9-8 I got them each a bathing suit. they are each getting a small candy heart as well. I bought pink pancake mix and we will have something special for dinner. Not sure what though!

My kids are each getting a $10 itunes card with a heart on it, bought them in a 3-pack at Target. I will tape those to the top of the little .99 heart shaped box of chocolates.

I got my DS17 and DD14 Disney Park gift cards. We are going in August and they love those cards. It's easier than carrying cash and they get to spend it on whatever they want.

Taking them to Magic Kingdom :wizard:

We arrive on Sat. I already bought their cards and since we have to go food shopping to stock the fridge when we get there I'll probably buy a small heart box for them

DD keeps saying that DH is her Valentine so he bought her a stuffed bear and some candy. She is going to be so surprised! She is such a Daddy's girl!

I got her a small box of Tinker Bell candy also and will make heart shape pancakes for both her and DH that morning!
