I just wanted to add the best thing I ever heard anyone give up for lent. A friend in college gave up taking the elevator for lent one year. We lived on the 9th floor in the dorm!! She did it though and tried to make the rest of us suffer with her!
AAAHHHH.. The joy of being Church of Christ. No Lent, no giving up anything...I will think fondly of you while I'm eating my Whopper and Snickers and drinking my Mountain Dew. If I had to give something up, I would make it something like onions, or stretch pants.
Of course, the reason being that we are supposed to not do bad things year round, not just those particular 40 days or so..
I am giving up being mean. I hope it will last for the entire year. It will make me a better person. There isn't any food that I can give up that would be a sacrifice, so I just picked a bad habit.
I gave up swearing - have already failed 5 times today. But, I am going to really try hard now.
Also, I had planned on giving up sweets, but after I read Diane's promise, I think I might copy her. Pray for someone new each day....what a great idea!!
Diane - if you want someone to pray for tonight, my dear hubby could use some healing prayers. He has a lump in his back. Xrays, MRI, 3 drs cannot figure out the source of his awful pain. He has been pretty doped up on vicodin and flexeril for the last couple days. He can use all the prayers possible. His name is Kevin
I'm giving up brownies. May not sound bad, but I'm hurtin' already. They are my favorite treat to make and I make them every couple weeks. AND I have two boxes of brownie mix in the pantry. So I'm living with temptation. Should be interesting.....
