What are you getting your Sweetheart for Valentine's?

February is going to be a hard month for us. Too many expenses all at once! Getting something small for both kids for V-Day. My nephew's birthday is V-Day. Our 5 month old kitten is getting her 3rd shots tomorrow, and fixed/microchipped at the end of the month (amost $500 for both!). And DD has a dentist appointment ($210).

Ugh... hopefully hubby has a day or two of overtime on his next paycheque. I have been applying all my home daycare monies to paying down our Visa. But I might have to skip it this month or be overdrawn immediately, a lot, next paycheque.

So... hubby asked what we are doing for V-Day and honestly, I don't want to spend anymore money!!

What are you all doing with your sweetheart for Valentine's day/night/weekend?

I am going to get my DH some of the heart shaped donuts from Dunkin Donuts and a heart shaped pizza from Dominos on Saturday and bring it home for dinner. I might throw some candles on the table. I know cheap, but I think it will be cute and cheesy. I have to do it Saturday because my DH will be leaving Sunday. Oh I am going to have him a card that will say the chocolates will be here when he returns and the 50% off sale begins. I am to cheap to pay full price for those nice big boxes.

For my ds4 I have him 2 small toy story Lego sets I got a really good deal at Christmas time. I will big him up some candy to go with it on Saturday as well.

DH and I don't exchange gifts. We have so much already. We'll either go out to breakfast with the kids on Sun. or have a nice family breakfast at home - waffles, fruit, bacon- the kind of stuff we don't usually eat on a daily basis.

I did get a gift for each of the girls plus a V-day ring pop and some yummy Dove chocolates.

***I just reread my post. We DO eat fruit on a daily basis as a snack, just not at breakfast

I found a CD he's had on his wish list for two years. (When I finally found one it was used and only cost $8 ).

I usually make my own card but I found one that actually said what I wanted to at Dollar Tree.

He will make and clean up my favorite meal: sage chicken for our dinner and his gift to me.

My wife and I do not exchange anything on Valentines Day. We think its a cheezy holiday and just away for stores to make money. It puts alot of pressure on people to get that right gift. I bet this so called holiday causes more breakups than any other. I send my wife flowers at work when there is no holiday and no pressure to do so. I think that is more special than a holiday where they tell you too. I think its better when it comes from the heart and not a store telling you to do something

My husband is working out of town, so it will be my son and I and two dogs

I did send DH a box of his very favorite (EXPENSIVE) chocolate covered cherries to the motel and a card, which is more than I usually do. We usually do just cards and perhaps a movie (at home via netflix)

This time, since it is just my 6 year old and myself, we are going to out for Chinese food (DH hates Chinese food) and that's about it.

Since my husband's B-day is the 12th, we usually postpone our Valentines celebration till the following weekend. Hubby saves on flowers and restuarants are not nearly as busy. Anyways, I usually don't get him a gift since he just had a birthday so I get him a card and myself BTW - he only gets me flowers and a card. It's a low key affair in our house. Kids get heart pancakes, cookies & Valentine webkinz this Sunday - candy is from school parties.

The aquarium is having a dinner that night we bought tickets for it. It was a little pricey but it won't be crowded (only 20 tables) and it will be something different than just going out to eat. I don't know what to get my DH for Valentines day.

I'm at a loss. no idea what i get DH but may make him his favorite brownies (from scratch) and will use heart shaped cookie cutters. Maybe some valentine scratch offs and a card.

DD is still big into manga so will give her a few books i purchased as well as some other small thing.

We don't usually celebrate the Hallmark Holidays. DH will be working on Valentine's Day and then we have a Relay For Life meeting that evening. I might make some pink cupcakes for my granddaughters but that's about it.

I have no idea right now, but I know he will find a CD or Blu-Ray movie he just has to have.

We may go to the restaurant where he proposed to me 10 years ago, but we'll see.

He probbaly won't do anything for me as usual. I will have to order my own flowers or something like that.

I think thats very sweet that you are the type of dh that does things just because but unfortunately there are many out there that do need a holiday to tell them to do something like that. Mine being one of them, he's not in the least romantic and while I don't expect him to ever change, once in awhile it would be nice for a little of that even if it means he had to be reminded by the date on the calender in order to do it.

I'm getting my dh a book that he has been saying he wants and some chocolates. I try to get him something different, not just the boxed stuff so I'm going to a local candy shop and hoping they have chocolate covered bacon. I also want to get him a GC to a specific store so he can get some more shelves that he wants for the garage, but the new location here isn't open yet, maybe I'll get lucky and it will be this weekend.

Well we do celebrate...not crazy all out, but we do enjoy the sentiment of it. I got my guy a really nice picture frame and tickets to the Red Sox. We live in Illinois, so we'll plan a weekend trip out to Boston this summer for them. I would be happy with a card from the heart.

I'm making DH a steak dinner (red meat is a rarity in our house so it's a treat), with his favorite yellow rice, and asparagus. For dessert I'm making brownie pudding http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/brownie-pudding-recipe/index.html and serving it with vanilla ice cream. My husband loves a molten dessert. I don't know what he's getting me.

We are on a tight budget that doesn't allow for many extras. My husband is a philosophical very technology orientated type of guy. He was a lot of electronics: a new TV (ours is more than 10 years old), another external hard drive and a laptop just to name a few. Of course, those are all out of our budget so I have been giving him best buy cards for special occasions so he can save for what he wants.

For Valentines day I will be giving him a $25 best buy card and I will be making him a card. I am also making roast with Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes and veggies for dinner for the whole family. For dessert I am making heart shaped rice krispie squares with half dipped in Chocolate.

I am making a special Valentines breakfast that morning so DH may or may not partake in that as well...he's not a breakfast person and usually would just prefer to have cereal!

You brought back a fun memory for me....many many years ago, my dh (we started dating at 15) now married 25+ years had a heart shaped pizza made ...and get this....I still have the top of the box saved in my attic...I also have the cute little stuffed animal he got me too....
I *think* I just might get a heart shaped pizza this year (30+ years later) and hide the box top under the new one....curious to see his reaction...he'll prob think I'm nuts

plushes were on sale at disneystore.com, buy one get one free, so i bought dbf a dopey valentine's day one and got it personalized. got myself a sorcerer mickey doll that i'll pretend is from him cause his money is tight right now (lots of traveling for interviews, just found out his insurance doesn't cover eye care so that was a surprise bill, etc). technically i *did* get it for free, like a present, so that's fine. though we are going away this weekend. but we would have done that anyway, as dbf has a sports obligation.
