Im not allergic to anything that I know of ... Until last night.

I went a mary Kay party ( no this isnt a slam against Mary Kay just venting about what hapened) this girl put a foundation on my hand and within seconds my hand started feeling like something was boring into it! it burned so badly I went and washed it off right away luckily my friend ( it was at her house) brought some Benadryl cream and pills so I took care of it right away but my hand is still swolen and itchy!!

The girl said " well never put on any Mary Kay Foundation again" did she actually think I would??? LOL

So anyway, my question is Are you allergic to anything and how did you find out that you were allergic to it? :)

I appear to be allergic to only three things (so far):
1. Rogaine (can you say contact dermititus)
2. Rose preservative
3. Coffee dust (when it get's in my eye, my eyelids swell shut)

When Rogaine went over-the-counter, I picked up a 90 day supply at Sam's Club. The pamphlet inside warned that some small percentage of people might have an allergic reaction. After using the stuff for a couple of weeks, I ended up in the doctor's office. I had contact dermititus not only on my scalp, but all over my forearms. I guess that I was folding my arms and resting my head on them while I slept.

When I first started dating Sue (a floral designer by profession), I had a reaction to a particularly strong batch of floral preservative that she had been working with all day. Seems she got it all over her clothes and that the simple act of sitting next to her with my arm around her was enough to cause me to break out in a nasty rash.

The coffee dust thing is still a mystery. If I am careless when making coffee and accidentally rub my eye, something in the dust causes my left eyelid (and only my left eyelid) to swell up and itch like crazy. I've been to the doctor and they suggest that I treat it with benedryl to relieve the symtoms.

All in all, I'm glad that my allergies are not to common things (like pollen which makes DW Sue and DS James miserable all summer long).

All of my allergies are drug allergies (specifically sulfa drugs). My most recent allergic reaction was to Neosporin (at age 38). I had gone to a dermatologist to have some small growths removed from my face. The doctor put Neosporin on it and then told me to continue this while they were healing. The spots looked pretty good when I left the office and that evening. The next morning I had big welts/hives all over my face. At first I thought that maybe I had a reaction to the numbing agent used at the doctor's office. I kept rubbing in the cream and it kept getting worse. I finally figured out it was the Neosporin. It took about 3 weeks for those hives to disappear. I then used it on another small wound I got later, just to see. Sure enough, I got all itchy there. But, if I just put the Neosporin on and I have no cut, I'm okay. Weird.

My son is allergic to peanuts and he found out when he was 8 months old and the daycare provider gave him a small piece of toast with peanut butter on it.

I'm allergic to animals and cats are the worst. The skin on my neck itches, my lungs close up, I sneeze, my eyes water and my eyeballs swell. Not a pretty sight.

My allergy is drug related as well. I am allergic to sulphur and I didn't find out until I was on my last pill. My skin got all blotchy and I itched inside and out. It was so uncomfortable.

Too many allergies to list. Have gone through allergy shots twice.

Dogs, cats (own 2), pollen, dust, trees, cut grass...... penicillen, asperin

Binny, I had a similar reaction with MK foundation. It didn't burn but my face broke out like I had poison ivy and my face swelled up. That's the only allergic reaction I've had besides seasonal allergies.

My DD on the other hand is allergic to a lot of things. She broke out in hives and her eyes swelled shut when I changed diaper brands. She is allergic to penicillin, dogs, pinapple, any citris, grass. When she gets a mosquito bite it swells up and gets all infected looking. I really need to get her tested, but hate putting her through it.

I'm allergic to cinnamon. If it touches me, my back will break out in welps and I'll itch like crazy. I also get a headache if I smell it too much (smelling fresh baked cinnamon rolls especially!). I didn't find out I was allergic to it until I was about 19 yo.

The artificial cinnamon doesn't bother me too much though.

I'm allergic to tree nuts. If I eat just one nut, I need to be rushed to the hospital immediately. If I'm not, my throat closes up and I stop breathing.

We found out about this allergy when I was 2 and ate a cashew. I almost died

I'm allergic to Penicillin. I took it for years before dental work (I have a heart murmor--MVP) and one morning I took it before having my teeth cleaned, and my throat started closing up and I broke out in hives.

The only things that I am allergic to that I know of are:

Penicillian
Tetrocycline
Erythromyacin
Rhonodomyacin
Seldane

Obviously they are all drugs, they are the ones I am aware of to date.

I'm allergic to lots of pollens, dust etc. Haven't been tested so I'm not sure exactly what just have bad hay fever and sinus problems from those.

I'm also allergic to wasps and other biting insects. I found out when I was 19 and working in FL one summer. I was doing some deliveries and at one house no one was home but there were some wasps or other insect by the door. One stung me on the lip, I go back in my car and was thinking oh great a fat lip when I noticed my arms were turning red, also my entire face was red. My vision started to blur and I didn't know what to do, I had no idea where any medical care was. I went to the next house on my list, thankfully someone was home. I looked horrible I was covered in hives by then. The person at the house took me to the hospital and by the time I got there (about 30 min from the time I was stung) I couldn't talk enough to tell the ER receptionist my name. They took me right to a treatment room and started giving me shots. The Drs & Nurses would come by and comment that they hadn't had anyone this bad in a long them  real comforting. They put me in a robe, I was covered head to foot in hives. They measured the effect of the meds starting at my feet, saying look a little bit of white is showing. I had to stay overnight but recovered pretty quickly considering.

I've also had a reaction to ant bites that wasn't as quick but also caused hives.

I do carry an epi-pen now but since it's been so long since I was stung Drs have told me that I'd probably have a slower reaction now. I do avoid yard work and other places where I'd increase exposure. They also have shots now but the last time I asked about them I was told I'd have to stay at the Dr's office for 3hrs after each to start. Just hasn't been worth it to me.

i wonder if it'snot something in mk foundation. i had same type of reaction once i applied it my my face and we just brushed it off as i'm not used to wearing make up and hardly ever do.

I'm allergic to dust mytes and fungus. I found out when I was 12 and started sneezing b/c of everything!

I have asthma due to my allergies. I found that out when I was in my mid 20's. I took DD to Ringling Brothers circus. Well half way through I was wheezy, itchy back, watery eyes, sneezing, etc. I thought I would die. Well, I told DD we had to leave. I knew I would be ok if I got fresh air. A security guard spots me before I got to the door and made me go to the first aid station. I didn't want to go but he was pretty insistent. Well, they keep the first aid station on the ground floor RIGHT by the animals. All my symptoms got worse. I actually had to be given oxygen cause I couldn't breathe. And then I was freaking out cause I couldn't breathe..not a good feeling at all. They had to call my mom to come get us and drive us home. And I was right, once I got fresh air, I felt better.

My dr explained that it wasn't the animals that bothered me but the animal poop  lol so now I carry an albuterol inhaler everywhere just in case.

I went to get a carrot muffin one morning before class started and when I took my first couple of bites my upper lip blew up like crazy! I'm assuming it was the cream cheese icing on top of the muffin because I never had that reaction to plain carrot muffins.
I don't think I made it to class that day! LOL

I'm allergic to mangos. I can eat them but I can't handle the skin. When I was 8 or 9 I was grocery shopping with my mom and I picked up a mango to ask her what it was. The next day at school I noticed a red spot the size of a quarter on my knee. By the time I got home it had grown into the size of a lemon.
I did get medicine from the doctor but for about a week I was covered in huge red welts.

I am allergic to all red and yellow dyes in all medication.
My son is allergic to sun tan lotion - sure glad he tans and does not burn. LOL

cats and the sun mainly.

Pollen or something outside, Aussie Moist shampoo, and the others come and go.

I have many allergies: dust, mold, grass, trees, pollen, all animal dander(cats and horses are the worst) all stinging insects, some spider bites, certain soaps, gold, PVC, Latex, surgical stitches, several medical products and possibly Titanium (I'm sure I'm missing some). The good thing is I did out grow my Penicillian allergy. I swell up all over especially my face, can't breath, get hives, eyes water, everything itches and hurts at the same time. I also have asthma because of all this. I carry an inhaler at all times along with my Epi-Pen. I also have to get 6 allergy shots every week. It's a pain in the butt at times and the worst thing is: my DD is following right in my footsteps, so far not as bad though. I found out alot of them through contact and then everything was confirmed through several allergy tests. The tests really aren't that bad/painful anymore.
