have you guys seen these?

they are sold in WDW - they are tubes of different coloured sugar and you get a tube and put all different colours of sugar in this.

I asked a CM to make sure that it was pure sugar and she said yes.

People buy this for their children? Then they wonder why their kids get all hyper and have meltdowns?

I saw one little boy about four or five holding one of these tubes filled with sugar in Ohana's - he was holding on to pluto's ankle/leg and being really hyper with a crazy look in his eyes.

I had to laugh.

but it is crazy though.

They are actually sour (at least the ones my kids have gotten) -- junky and made of sugar to be sure, but sour tasting powder. Certainly no worse than cotton candy or other things we give our kids as a treat on vacation.

Yes, I have let my DD have this. I think she liked the idea of pouring it into the tube than actually eating it. It is kind of like a Pixie Stick. Don't tell me you never had a Pixie Stick when you were young. ;) :teeth:

yup, they are like a Pixie Stick. DD always makes one and she pours some of it into her water and shakes it up for a sort of Kool-aid concotion. YUCK hey, she likes it and it is VACATION!!!

Funny story about the "big Pixie sticks". Went down for a girls weekend last may and it seems like the "Goofy Sour" dispensers were in every store. We saw them everywhere. Finally my blonde (no offense to any blondes) friend, God love her, says "What is that Goffy Soup stuff we keep seeing". :rotfl:

That was before the POP CULTURE decided that:

A. Sugar is "poison."

B. Sugar will turn anyone into a zombie.

C. Sugar will turn anyone into a Hyper-maniac.

(Don't know how to "rectify" B with C, but hey, it doesn't matter...
its the evil SUGAR.)

There is no more sugar (or fructose) in one of these "tubes of powder" than in drinking a standard (non-diet) soft drink.

I'm a psychology student and we learned about a study in class that shows that sugar doesn't actually make children hyper. Two groups of kids were each given soda, one group got regular, and one got diet (no sugar). The sugar group didn't behave anymore hyper than the non-sugar group. The children only act more hyper because they all believe that is what sugar does to them. It's all psychological. It's quite interesting actually...

Exactly! I used to babysit a kid who's mother constantly harped about sugar. The kid could drink a huge glass of apple juice (tons of "sugar") without a twitch but give him 3-4 gummy bears and he would flip out. :yay:

Though the child did have some nutritional truths down pat. I took him along with my three and a couple of other kids to McDonald's one day, and he loudly announced as we walked through the door "My Mom says I shouldn't eat here, the food is crap!" :rotfl:

ah ha! I was just going to post the same thing but imo the parents think they act more hyper( i had a friend( one of the original junk food junkies) who swore her kid was "bad" when he has "sugar" but the reality was the kid was a maniac all the time sugar or not...she also felt it was only dessert type sugar... the highly sweetened cereal he for breakfast all the time didnt' do it  we see what we want to see :rotfl2: )

My Dr. said the same thing.

To my two kids 7 & 11, getting these are a part of a Disney vacation! :)

I buy a 30" on for DD (25) every time I go. She just loves them and I can think of much worse things for her to be doing than a Goofy Sour stick.

The 30" one's go for $5.50 plus tax. You can get them in sizes from 6" to 30".

I can't imagine life without the White Apple flavor!! It's what makes the trip for me and I usually get a ton of them!! Disney would do better putting it in I.V. form! Oh, and by the way, I'm not a child, nor do I have any. I am, however, a child of the 70-80's when candy was good, Pixie Sticks were a food group and Wonka was king. I do always feel a little bit sorry for all the kids standing around me in sheer awe and their mommies telling them they can't have any because they will be "bouncing off the walls".

You are right about that White Apple -- I make sure my kids get lots of that flavor and I make sure they will share!

FYI: We bought some of this direct from a manufacturer in the LA area and sold them during fundraisers at my DS's elementary school. The kids went crazy over the stuff and begged us to sell it again. You pay $1.00 for a 12" tube and it comes with the candy to fill it with, then you sell it for $2.00. 100 tubes gets you 7 different flavors. One of the most popular things we have ever had!
