What are those of you in the area of recent shootings doing about Halloween?

Thom and I are understandably (I think) scared about the safety of Bobby and Jessi on Halloween. We're taking them trick or treating at a couple of malls in the area rather than out in residential areas, but I'm still scared. How are the rest of you dealing with this?

Haven't made a decision yet, and I won't until probably the day before. My kids love trick or treating the old fashioned way - going door to door - so I'm leaning on the side of taking them over to a few neighbors just for the novelty, but our usual ramp all over the neighborhood will have to wait until next year.

Well as of now Becki we are going. I would be more concerned at a big mall than in my cozy little neighborhood. NOT gonna let this guy rule my life any more than I have to!!! But yes, I am scared.

Right now, I am planning to take my kids out trick or treating. We usually hit a large development near us. (We are on a mountian with only half a dozen neighbors.) I will still take them. The neighborhood does not have direct access to any major arteries. I grabble with Halloween every year because of my boys' nut & peanut allergies. We just have to be extra careful. They have their costumes and their school is threatening to cancel the indoor Halloween carnival due to lack of parental involvement.

I think that if he was going to do something he would be more likely to hit outside of a mall than in the middle of a subdivision or a neighborhood

Laureen, that's kind of what I was thinking too but Thom thought Willow Lawn and Regency would be safe.

Would it be possible to have a neighborhood trick or treat in a different format this year? Possibly have all the kids going to the back doors and traveling thru the back yards from house to house [if possible] rather than walking in open down the main street. Another idea would be to have the neighborhood gather for a party in one or two back yards --- set up table for the kids to walk to and get their treats -- and show of their costumes -- rather than walking along the main sidewalks of the community.

My 12 y.o. has informed me that trick-or-treating is too "juvie" so he's not going out this year.

But we are planning on business as usual for our 11 y.o. who does want to go door to door.

Our subdivision has no street lights, it's fairly dark, so I would think it would be hard to aim and hit under these circumstances.

Wovenwonder, that's a great idea...wouldn't work in my particular situation but it's still an awesome idea :)

Wovenwonder, that is a great idea!

Becki...maybe you could consider Chesterfield Towne Center. No interstates anywhere nearby. They usually do Halloween in a big way...bet it's bigger this year!
