Hi we will be heading to DL this Sunday for 3 days. What are the security lines like now? In the early morning? Does it still get backed up first thing in the morning? Do they move fast? Thanks for the help.

it can go either way, but on sunday, i would anticipate longer lines. they usually move pretty quickly though. the lines toward the center always seem to be longer, so we usually head to one of the lines on the far left or right.
also have your bags off your body, on the table, and open for them to search and have your pockets empty too just in case you have to go through the metal detectors. it goes much faster if they don't have to ask.

We are here atm. Yes they back up but they move fast. It's about a 10 minute wait at the longest. They are very thorough and are putting almost everyone through the metal detectors

When we were there last week everyone went through the metal detectors except one time when we went through the GC entrance early afternoon. Coming from the DLH they were anywhere from 5 minutes to 15. Just give yourself a few extra minutes and remain calm. Interestingly we did see two different individuals, on different days, not allowed in and immediately surrounded by extra security. I think the one had a pocket knife he wasn't wanting to get rid of not sure on the other.

I was there last during a very busy week (natural products expo week) and on our last day we didnt get to security until 30 minutes after park opening on a magic morning day. it took 20 minutes. I'm really hoping its better than that next week.

Are there still lines for those who don't carry in bags? We're going without kids this trip and don't plan on taking bags in hopes to lighten our load and make security easier.

Nope. Everyone has to wait in the lines and get a "visual check" as they walk through.

The mornings aren't bad, it seems to be worse in the late afternoon, early evenings when everyone has gone back to their rooms and then head back to the parks! We were there in early September and the lines at 5pm going from DTD to the parks were ridiculously long!!!

What are the security lines like in the morning? Imagine the TSA lines at Chicago's O'Hare airport on Christmas Eve and the airlines have just announced free airfare anywhere in the US. Now double it. ;-).

All kidding aside, my experience has been that they're super light when the park opens at 8:00 and moderately to considerably heavier when the park opens at 9:00. Last Sunday was by far the longest I've ever seen -- perhaps 15 minutes? That was probably due in part to the CM Halloween party going on that morning from 7:00 - 9:00. Best of luck! :-).

The morning lines aren't nearly as bad as later in the day. I've been in the line over 1/2 hr a few times already.

It really depends what you mean by early morning! We were there in mid-August and arrived 30 minutes before EE opening every day. Lines were very short to non-existent at that time of day; you could be through in 5 minutes. But when we got there 20 minutes ahead of regular park opening (which is 40 minutes after EE opening), lines were considerably longer. It took us maybe 20 minutes to go through bag check and security. Sunday was the least crowded day and the easiest through security.

Security opens 30-45 minutes prior to EE (at least that's what I was told when I asked at the ticket counter).

We were just there Sept. 12th-16th. We were at the rope drop every morning. We stayed at the VGC, so we did the early entry park each day. I would say we would get in line about 45 minutes before park opening. We were usually about the 10th family in line.

I have read a couple of folks staying on site had better luck going through security/bag check at the GCH entrance if it was just after EMH/opening time. Obviously you have to be staying on site in order to use this entrance before 11 am, but I never thought of going into DCA via the GCH entrance and then skirting over to DL, thus bypassing the main security/bag check lines.
