What are the Run Disney routes for Jan 5 and Jan 6, is normal traffic interrupted?

Flying in Thursday morning Jan 5th for a cruise that leaves on Jan 6th.

Trying to choose a resort, and I want to avoid getting to a situation where I can't get to a resort Thursday Morning, or leave for the terminal Friday Morning.

Will choose a resort least impacted by runners.

If anyone knows this information, I would also like to know for the 7th.

We were there during marathon weekend in 2020 and really got hung up on that Sunday (the day of the full marathon). Waited on a bus for 45 minutes near the MK.

We were there last year same time. Planned Epcot for our full marathon day. Took the Skyliner so no issues getting there at least. But runners in the park made it very hard to get around until early afternoon.

I suspect that on the 5th you won't have much issue (unless the schedule has changed a lot). I think the issues will be the 7th and 8th.

The 5K on Thursday and the 10K on Friday don’t impact any roadways. The half marathon on Saturday impacts World Drive but is over pretty early. It’s the full marathon on Sunday that most severely impacts traffic!

When you say the half is over early, would it be early enough I shouldn't have issues getting to MK from Pop at rope drop?

The course is open for 3.5 hours after the last person crossed the finish line. This generally happens around 6 am as the actual race starts at 5. You can be certain the course is closed by 9:30. Not sure what time you are heading to MK. If it is before 7 am you will have some problems. If it is 8 am probably less than 7 but still some impacts. If it is 9 am less impacts.

That's kind of the problem. We need to make it to Magic Kingdom by rope drop. I'm guessing that will be in the 8 AM range. I think it will just be a crap shoot. Tried moving things around but couldn't switch this.

That is why I put it out there like that. It could be ok but it also could be not ok. Plus every year can be different with what strange thing is thrown out there. I run marathon weekend every year, so I don’t go to the parks while traffic can be messed up but some years are exceptional and some fly under the radar.

Yeah, pretty much what I figured. Thanks!

I can’t really comment if directly relevant to the WDW Half Marathon, but we were at CR in a TPV room during the Princess Half (which follows a similar course) this year and the final people were passing CR at 7:20 and traffic was back underway by 7:40 or so. Again, might not be a fair comparison as it’s a different race/different variables but just throwing that out there as a moment in time data point.

You can still get to MK before that, they just bus people to the TTC and you have to Ferry or Monorail to MK. With World Drive closed the bus routes can be detoured pretty materially so the journey can take much longer than normal - but you can get there!

I appreciate hearing your observations. That's one more data point than I had before!

Unfortunately my one experience with this wasn't good. We were on a bus but sitting on the road near the entrance, but just sat there forever (at least 45 minutes). We were very close to the TTC but they didn't divert us there to use ferry or monorail. We just sat there.

Yeah, I had a fun absurdly long Minnie Van ride back in 2017 or 2018'ish (don't remember exactly) getting from BWI to MK the morning of the Princess Half. They had given the Minnie Van drivers incorrect info that they could drop off at the MK bus station, which was horribly incorrect. So we ended up in something similar to your bus experience that didn't move at all.

My impression is that that was one of those "nothing went right" traffic logistics mornings and things have improved with their communication/detouring, but I agree with the PP it's like whack-a-mole with the 'problems' those mornings sometimes. Good luck.
