what are the most crucial items to pack for an august trip

Sunscreen, light colored clothing, umbrella(my preference) or poncho, and small fan.

I'd say open comfy shoes like Tevas and definately tank tops. And bring lots of sun block and a visor or hat. I like a tennis visor because its cooler than wearing a baseball cap.

I bought my Body Glide at Dick's Sporting Goods for around $10 w/no shipping (ha).
I would add an extra pair of shoes, like sandals or flip flops, these you'll wear to the pool, down for a quick bite, on rest days etc. etc. I always recommend people take shoes other than their park walking shoes (which may also get too wet for comfort) so the pressure points are different or to relieve blisters. This year I'm foregoing the mister fan for just a pocket fan (in FL you don't need MORE humidity, you need to dry what's on you) my favorite is a $.99 Wal-mart version that fits in my shorts pocket and even comes with the batteries and really moves the air.
Another vote for "no-black" and "extra clothes for mid-day change"
Also, my favorite "new found" product is an all natural all-over body mineral salts spray that is made to neutralize body odor when you sweat. I've been using it for my feet when I go to the gym and LOVE it. I sprayed my kids down with it on top of their sunscreen during our July trip to the desert, I didn't want to smell them coming!

Shocker, can you tell us more about the mineral salt spray? Brand? Price? etc? I have not heard of that before.

Thanks!

I was trying to figure out if I should bring a mister or just a fan. It does seem like the fan would be better.

What do you think?

Are you driving or flying? A cooler in the room to keep things cold if you don't want to spend the $$ each day on a fridge. When we drive we take one with. When we fly we order one (styrofoam) from Garden Grocer along with cases of water and snack foods. Also we take bandaid brand blister stick, moleskin and blister band-aids with always. Keep your feet dry.

Misting Spray Fan and extra batteries!

Baby wipes in a travel size...SO handy for soooo many things including sticky hands and dirty counter service tabels!

More than one pair of comfortable shoes.

My favorite fan is the O2Cool Ipod shaped fan. The reason I like it is that the air comes out the top, so when you hang it around your neck, it cools you without having to hold it.

Debbie: Can I ask you where you got this O2Cool fan? Thanks!

Great thread, THANKS!

My Dd loves her I-Fan, we had picked it up at Office Max for a couple of dollars. We also use the mister fans that they sell at WDW. I usually fill it with ice cubes and cold water before we leave the resort, and throughout the day from CS places. Warm mist does not help with the humidity, but COLD ice mist with the fan blowing on you really feels good when it gets so hot!!!!

I agree with the extra bras too. Either that or plan on doing some laundry during down times.

I always have white petroleum jelly(bodyglide is probably better I have just never used it) to help against chaffing- I also always bring my own poncho so that I know it will be long enough that I can sit in it( hate getting my butt wet from the short WDW ponchos).

The best fan I've bought is right at the China pavilion. You know, the old fashion kind that you open and fan yourself! So convenient and cheap ($6 for a lovely silk), it just slips into my backpack. Doesn't mist or anything, but I love it because it reminds me of Disney.

Someone did "borrow" my other one out of my backpack last trip. DD was so mad and insisted we go back to Epcot to buy another one.

Now I keep it in my teacher bag at school. I call it my "flash fan" - older gals will know what I mean :)

Anyway - China pavilion, $6, gorgeous, convenient.

;) don't forget your cell phone charger!!!
Personally, I have to do laundry, even on vacation. So I bring liquid detergent in a sealed container and softener sheets. I also bring plastic hangers from home, ther's never enough in the room. That way you can hang washed clothing if you don't want to dry.

visor, sunglasses, baby wipes, sunblock, water, teva sandals, coolmax sox, coolmax tops, light colored/lightweight skirt - and more water!

carrie1626 I also do laundry on vacation,:laundy: I found (from the dis boards) these neat little things called "laundry dropps" they are sealed little packets of detergent to go!
I got them off walmart.com for 4.97 for 20 of them. I thought it might help someone else if you do laundry at WDW!

my husband just asprins!!:goodvibes and we always need Benadral for my son, he always get the sniffles from certain AC in places:confused3
