What are the most and least thoughtful gifts that you received?

I don't find anything to be "least thoughtful" . I think anytime anyone things enough about you (even if just a card) to bestow something is thoughtful. Unless it is hurtful and insulting which I can't imagine anyone I know doing.

Right before my wedding my own mother got me pierced earrings. Unfortunately my ears aren't pierced! I don't know what she was thinking but they were lovely (and easy to return!)

How about most thoughtful I gave? A personalized, hand painted toilet seat! To my DD - who's 9. Yep, she HATED it and almost started crying thinking it was the WORST Christmas ever. Especially after she opened the package with matching bath towels and floor mat.

LOL (Yes, she got 'cool' stuff too)

I can't complain at all. I got some $$$ that will help with the wedding along with some really nice stuff.

My sister and her ex had been married almost a year. She spent months making and tailoring a 3 piece suit for him, plus getting him several other things he wanted. Christmas morning, she has 1 gift from him under the tree....a roll of Amway tinfoil!

OMG! How insulting!

So......how long before they got divorced? And why on earth did he give tinfoil?

Most thoughtful gift: a watercolor of cardinals sitting on a branch painted by DD13. She obviously put a lot of thought into it--i love birds and she did a great job on it.

Least thoughtful gift: "Hook 'em, Horns" slippers. :confused3

Most thoughtful was my DH saying we should exchange this year, we haven't for about 4 years. It was fun having presents under the tree and the anticipation of opening them. And my sons sent me a beautiful leather purse with the corvette logo on it, the color of our car.

Least thoughtful was that stepson and his family sent us nothing, not even a card.

Most thoughtful gift: a friend who I don't know that well had her daughter in England buy me animal-themed Christmas tree ornaments, knowing that I do my entire tree in animal ornaments and thinking (correctly) that she would be able to find very different ornaments than what I would find in the USA. I didn't even realize I had mentioned that I do my tree in an animal theme. I was very, very touched. My friend is her Dad's caregiver and I watched her Dad for her one evening when she couldn't stay with him and she was so appreciative.

DH and I always tell each other what we want so there's no hinting around or hoping and wishing for certain gifts. We know we will get stuff we like from each other. We made this "rule" very early on in our relationship as I did NOT want to be like my mother (who used every gifting occasion as an occasion to be mad at my father for not being "thoughtful" enough).

This year we gave each other annual passes to WDW (same gift 4 years in a row). We love our APs! We have spent major, major $$$ on our dog over the last few months (torn ligament, TLSO surgery, osteomyelitis, etc.) so our dogs health is our biggest concern this Christmas.

I got a laptop and a new set of Calphalon cookware...both of which I really love.

One year my MIL gave me a set of folding chairs. Since then, she's gotten to the point where it's hard to even guess what's next. Her gifts are nice, but are almost always some sort of house decoration that is completely not my style.

This year, I just decided to get her some towels. I'm tired of trying to figure it all out.

Best: Digital Camera
Worst: Sweater that I need to exchange. It's not I do not love the sweater, it's just the hassell of having to exchange it.

The best: The letter DD7 wrote me about how I am the best mom ever

The worst: Fur lined flipflops from my inlaws ??????????? Where would you where those? When would you wear those?

is it possible they are bedroom slippers? I have seen a lot of "flip-flop" bedroom slippers this year.

The most thoughtful present my husband got me was a calendar with Collies. We have a collie and every Christmas my mom would buy me a collie calendar. Since my mom passed away 2 years ago, my husband started buying the calendar for me, I think it is really sweet. He did great with all of my gifts this year. I didn't get anything this year I would call unthoughtful. I also received a chopping board from a friend that he made himself, it is a beautiful checkerboard, it looks so nice I don't want to use it!

No duds for me at all!

My favorite is the Harry Potter wizards chess game!

But I also love the HP calendar, the GC for circiut city (I'll get an iPOD with it) and the lovely fairy that my daughter gave me! I must have been darned good this year because Santa was very kind to me!

LOL! I have these and I wear them all the time! In fact, I need to buy a new pair because mine are getting ragged. Is the pair you got from your ILs this pair from LL Bean?

http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?storeId=1&catalogId=1&langId=-1&categoryId=47946&sc1=Search&feat=sr

If so, you can take them back to LL Bean if you have one near you. They are very good about returning stuff for store credit even if you don't have a receipt.

DH ASKED me what I wanted. I told him two things (the FIRM exercise system and a new power mop from Black and Decker)

So I get a gift card to my favorite country/primitive store (I'm excited about this one)

But then he gets me a thing of body wash and body lotion (each a different scent- which were not the best smelling things on this earth---think grandmas attic) But the thing with those gifts is.....he knows I can't use scented lotion, body wash etc because of a sensitive skin issue

And to top it off, he also got me a set of floor mats for my SUV. HUH?????
When did I ask for these and WHY would I want them? I already have a set in my truck. But apparently he drove my truck one day and the mats that were already in there irritated them. So he took it upon himself to buy me new ones. I really should have bought him a blender or something. LOL

New DIL & son knew we were going to Disney in Feb., gave us Keys to Kingdom passes & satelllite radio for car w/docking station for in our house!! She is ESPN Radio producer in CT & we don't get ESPN Radio very well on regular radio...GREAT Gifts!!

Two very thoughtful gifts stand out - one was the Christmas ornament DD3 made for us in her preschool class, wrapped, put under the tree & kept secret for 3 whole days. She was opening her gifts and suddenly stopped and said "oh, you have to open your gift!" then she ran over and excitedly got our gift and gave it to us to open together - it was so sweet!
The second thoughtful gift was my own tool kit from my mom (along with the For Better or For Worse Sunday comic about women and tools). I'm constantly searching for a tool when I need one because although DH is a neat freak with everything else he does he has the inability to put tools back in the toolbox when he's done with them - aaaaaagh! So now I have my own, which will remain off-limits to DH!

The least thoughtful was the art piece that my in-laws (notirously bad gifters) gave me. It's this little (way little) glass fishbowl with little glass fish and glass greenery in it. I think it must be by a crafter friend of theirs or something since I've gotten the glass things like that before, but here's the thing - it's not my style at all - or DHs. What am I supposed to do with it? Anybody want it?

OMG! How insulting!

So......how long before they got divorced? And why on earth did he give tinfoil?

They were divorced 5 months later. Not because of the tinfoil. He was abusing her terribly, and she found out she was pregnant, and realized she couldn't raise a child with a man who hit her and verbally abused her.

By the way, he got the tinfoil when she left him. She wrapped it nicely and put a pretty bow on it. We never found out why he thought tinfoil was such a great gift. Who knows?

My parents gave me a charm bracelet that used to belong to my grandmother. They had it cleaned. They almost hit the floor when the jeweler told them how much it is worth.
