Ok, I have heard them mentioned a million times and heard them argued over whether they really move or not, etc. What are they? I think they were in EPCOT? Are they still there?

They are these elevator type things that supposedly transport you underwater (in the living seas). They actually are just simulators so you really don't go anywhere. You descend only about an inch or so but if feels like your going deep underwater to sea base alpha.

Last time we were there in january, the hydrolaters were not there,so i was wondering if they were coming back or not?

That's too bad. I know it's silly, but my kids really thought they were going somewhere on those! To me those are one of the things that makes Disney magical. :wizard:

Boy that's a relief. All that time I worried about the doors being crushed from the pressure, flooding the Hydrolater, and drowning everyone inside were a waste of my time. :)

Part of the reason for the hydrolators was that The Living Sea's original corporate sponsor (United Technologies) was the parent company of Otis Elevators. So, you rode in an Otis HYDROLATOR that prominently displayed the company's logo.

I believe the exit hydrolators were removed when the exit to the pavillion was turned into the entrance at the beginning of the recent renovation. So now, you just walk in the door.

The Hydrolators are forever gone from the former Living Seas.
The old theme of Sea Base Alpha is also gone.

Imagineers are going full speed forward with the new them "The Seas : With Nemo and Friends"

It's a shame that the old mentality of learning about the ocean is slowly washing away from this pavillion.

I agree. I believe they could have left it with the same learning and still added nemo and friends. Somehow I don't think that nemo and friends has anything to do with the future and what we learn from the ocean. I still think that it will be nice. Turtle talk with cruch is wonderful. It just seems they are parting ways of the original EPCOT idea. :confused3

I really missed the movie about the formation of the oceans. It was so dramatic! I could care less about the sea cab ride and the hydrolators, but I was pretty sad to hear that they were making it all Nemo-themed. Guess the little kids need something more than just Figment!
