What are the chances, realistically...

If I book a trip now for the first/second week of January on getting any table service reservations?

You can go to the website to make dining reservations and know what is available. If your trip doesn't work, cancel the dining reservations.

But I don't think I can do that before I book. I don't want to pay for table service dining and find out I'm stuck at counter service all week.

I just randomly checked Jan 9 1PM 2 people. Out of 118 restaurants 60 have availability and 58 do not. So I guess it depends, as always, on date, time, # of guests, and restaurant choice.

As for your chances of getting ADR, extremely good.
We book no ADR more than 1 day out for any of our trips. We eat 99% TS, very little QS. We never have any problems finding an ADR, even on our trip last week over Thanksgiving.

Thanks. As you can see by my signature, it's been 6-1/2 years since my last trip. So I'm really not sure how anything works anymore. :)

Definitely be prepared not to get the big! hyped! restaurants! at any time/any decent time. Definitely thinking of Ohana dinner, BOG dinner, Chef Mickey most of the day here. But if you're flexible and open to some adventure, I bet you can find some good options!

We are just coming home now. The day before each restaurant has several cancelations. You would
Be surprised;) I saw all the popular restaurants! I
Looked for curiosity!

You can find some good some good spots that will have opening still. I doubt that they will have the best times available but you never know. As long as you are flexible I am sure you can make it work

So I just booked a trip for the third week of January two days ago (after waffling if we could or could not go). I'm finding pretty good availability for the restaurants we want, though granted there are only two of going and we don't tend to want to eat at some of the 'big' restaurants. However, you can go ahead and book restaurants you know you want now and then cancel you ADRs a day before without penalty. I've also had success just randomly deciding a few hours (or minutes even!) about where I want to go by looking at the MDE app and deciding what looks good.

Just echoing some other people here. As long as you're willing to be adventurous or flexible you very may well stumble across a hidden gem. My mom and I did that a few years ago with Teppan Edo.

You don't need to have a trip booked or stay onsite to make dining reservations at WDW. You can go on the website now and make your reservations. They will ask you for a CC number which will be used to charge you $10 per person if you don't show up or don't cancel within 1 day of the reservation, but there is no charge, upfront, to make the reservations (except for special dining events, dinner shows and CRT). So, I would just go on the site and make any reservations you want and then book your trip. Just remember, if you don't end up traveling, you will need to cancel those dining reservations.

Shouldn't be too bad as that tends to be a low crowd time especially if you're flexible with time. We grabbed a BoG ressie last trip two weeks before. People cancel, plans change, things open up. Finding somewhere shouldn't be a problem. If you want a pre-park CRT or a 6 pm Le Cellier it's probably not going to happen but if your okay with an 8 pm dinner at The Wave or a 11 am lunch in Morocco I don't think you'll have problems.

Yes, this is correct. I also wanted to add that if you dont have a package booked, the system will only allow you to book one days worth of ADRs. You cant book for multiple days like guests with booked packages can.

But its true that if you check the day before, you'll notice a lot of cancellations...even the really popular hard-to-get ones!

You can book as many ADR per day as you wish.
What I think you mean if you can only book 1 day's worth of ADR at a time. No 180+10 without an on site reservation.

You will find what you want if you are flexible. Keep hunting even the night before. Just to give you example I searched dinner for 6:30 for tomorrow for 4 people. There were times for chef mickeys pretty normal, boma, hoop revue, jiko, narcoossees, sci fi, prime time, mama melrose, Tusker house, yachtsman.

Character dining - garden grill, chef mickeys, 1900 park fare.

And a lot more... and it will be a quieter time when you go. Go ahead and make reservations. If you can't get what you want reserve a b plan and keep looking for your a plan to come up!
