However, the idea of one never crossed my mind until now so all I want is an upper floor now! LOL
Agreed. To the OP thanks for the nightmares.

OK kids. As is traditional every time there is a "critters" thread, somebody has to post the story of the Famous Contemporary Snake. Yes, it is a true story. You can find a link to the original blog here:

Here we go...... if you look closely you can see the snake wrapped around Elias's arm.
The snake was found at 11:45 p.m. We had turned down the air to 50 degrees to smoke him out.
3 foot of black snake. Please zoom in.
Complete story: Scott and Clay were at Epcot. Most of the time during this trip Clay and Scott were at Epcot. So no big news there. Amy and I decided to wake the girls up from their afternoon nap and go over to Downtown Disney. They were sleeping in OUR hotel room. Woke them up and Bethany did not feel well. She threw up and decided she felt ok so we went down to the bus. Get on the bus with about 20 other people and Bethany throws up everywhere. Bless her, we all evacuated and she was sick again all over the bus stop. Poor thing. She was terrible. Amy and I decided there was not a lot I could do to help her so LG and I went ahead to DD. Scott and Clay did not even know what was going on back at the homefront. While LG and I were at DD, Amy continued to text that B. was still sick and housekeeping was coming every once in awhile with new sheets, towels, etc.
Next, I receive a text from Amy: NEED YOU TO COME BACK TO HOTEL ASAP
ME: sure, R U OK?
AMY: SNAKE N ROOM
ME: WHAT?
AMY: bethany in hallway with trashcan. manager coming. some guy from wv helping.
of course, LG and I scoot back as soon as we could. The snake was in the room and had slithered away. There were SEVERAL people in the room looking for it. However, when they were on the hunt, they found a NEST!!!! WITH EGGS IN IT!!!!!
Finally, the Gledhills were moved to an absolute Rock STar Celebrity Suite!!!! Super duper cool. Elias found the snake around 11:45. We all ran in minus Clay, LG and of course, Bethany. Elias was the hero of the night.

Well, THAT was interesting! finding one snake would bother me a LITTLE....finding a NEST would bother me a WHOLE LOT! nothing against snakes, but they need to be out in the wild...NOT my hotel room! SSSSSSSSSSS!
no elevators at POFQ
there are no elevators??
LolDid they remove them? We've had stays in 3 different buildings at POFQ and all 3 had an elevator.
We had a first floor at CR a lizard lived right outside. I had coffee with him every day. I believe he's related to Pascal.
Do ducks count? lol when we stayed on the first floor at the Poly we would open our sliding door and in came the ducks! too cute! all kidding aside, with all of the rain that Florida has had this summer I'd be more inclined to take an upper floor! lots of critters and snakes around...YUCK! I also worry about the mosquitos later on in the summer and fall! lots of spray!
Black snakes can climb and are fairly unobtrusive. And are completely harmless. And that one wasn't even particularly big. Eastern black snakes can grow to around 8 feet long, though the biggest I've ever seen is about 6 feet. How do the housekeepers miss a big snake, nest and eggs???? Only if they are doing a mediocre job cleaning a room would they miss that!! I find this really problematic!! And how in the heck did a big black snake get into a room in the Contemporary hotel many floors up. The rooms dont even open to the outside. they open to an inside hallway. So this snake just slithered around the halls, up the elevator and into a room, layed eggs and nobody saw this!!??!?!
Having just moved out of Orlando, let me tell you that an upper floor room doesn't help. Lizards can and will climb the walls (we found so many on our roof when we went to tap down a shingle), snakes can slither up anything smooth enough (complete verticals), and palmettos fly. There are big outdoor cockroaches that seek moisture, so during the driest months (Winter) its not uncommon for them to try and sneak in. I've seen them come in through bathtub pipes in homes slightly older than my former house. They aren't indoor creatures by any means, but they go where the water is.
Have fun with thatThe only creature we've encountered is a snake in the lazy river at Typhoon Lagoon. Poor guy was just floating along with his head/neck up out of the water. Everyone panicked, but the poor snake couldn't figure out how to get out! The lifeguards were too afraid to wrangle it, so a guest helped it out.
Almost certainly non-poisonous. Glad someone helped it out.Having just moved out of Orlando, let me tell you that an upper floor room doesn't help.
