What are the chances of a cancellation?

One month ago, I booked a week at CSR Jan. 27-Feb. 3. I decided to extend on the front end by 2 days (Jan. 25-27) and managed to change my flights without change penalties. When I called to change the room ressie, they told me CSR is booked those two nights, so I had to book 2 nights at POR. Nothing against POR, but I'd prefer not to have to change hotels. What do you think the odds are of a cancellation opening up those two days? Also, any recommendations as to when (i.e., time of day, day of week) to be calling Disney to check for cancellation?

I've done this so many times (decided to add more days and they were booked) that now I go ahead and book a couple more days than I think we'll be there at the beginning. You can always cancel if you don't use them (within 6 days for room only reservation), but 9 times out of 10 we do end up staying the whole time.

Anyway, to answer your question, what I do is check the website for vacancies several times a day. Then when (IF) it shows availability for what I want, I call. I think it's very possible that something will open up for you. Definitely keep trying!

IIRC, there is a conference that weekend with a book-by date in early January, so it couldn't hurt to keep calling. There might be some rooms that open up when the conference booking date passes.

Our friends are going to a conference at CSR that ends Jan. 25th, and we will already be there for our conference that starts Jan. 28th. If others have done like we and our friends have done, there will be people staying after their conference or coming early for their conference. We had discounted rates for 3 days prior to and 3 days after our conferences as well as during the conference (but I did better than the conference rate with my AP). I hope you can get the dates you need at CSR.

At least for the weddings, Disney will release the unbooked rooms in the room block one month prior. So, you may want to check back then too! :)

Keep calling, the rooms will free up. The web site is lousy at accuracy of rooms available.

Since packages have to be paid at 45 days, there will be some additional vacancies when people cancel right at that 45-day mark. For your dates, that will be coming up on Friday (I think). Even with a couple days grace, there should be some openings Monday or Tuesday.

If you do try the website and the live chat window opens up, try asking the CM online for help. That's how we added two days to the front of our next trip, after trying by phone for a couple of weeks.
