Decided to get one for my DD. Now trying to decide whether to go ahead and purchase, or wait and see if Amazon offers a gift card with purchase or something like that on BF. What do you think?

I think the chances are pretty slim. I saw a review where it was stated they are selling 50,000 a day. Also, they are selling on a first come first serve basis. I ordered mine last night and was given an estimated delivery date between 11/28-12/02. Waiting until next Friday might make it tough to get to you by Christmas if the demand keeps up.

My guess is no way. I read that they are losing something like $10 on each Fire unit (I love Amazon, but I don't feel sorry for them!). Maybe another product, but not the Fire.

That's interesting. I ordered mine on 11/8 and was given: November 30, 2011 - December 8, 2011 for estimated delivery.:confused3

EDITING POST WITH AN UPDATE
I just got an email from amazon with a new arrival date of November 22, 2011 - November 29, 2011

Smart for them, the more units out there the more books and Apps being purchased. Kind of like the nearly free printer with the profit in the ink.

OP, there's no chance the Fire will be cheaper this holiday season. Go ahead and order it online from Amazon or find one in a B&M store if you can.

Strange. Hopefully you'll get it sooner than that.:goodvibes

I just got an email from amazon... :)

We have good news! We're able to get this part of your order to you faster than we originally promised:

"Kindle Fire, Full Color 7" Multi-touch Display, Wi-Fi"
Previous estimated arrival date: November 30, 2011 - December 08, 2011
New estimated arrival date: November 22, 2011 - November 29, 2011

Was thinking of getting one for DD12. Anyone know if you can put restrictions on the internet part?

Hmmmm....Radio Shack is offering a $20 gift card with the purchase of a Nook Color ($199) on BF. Aren't the Kindle Fire and the Nook Color pretty much the same thing?

You can get a nook color for 150 on buy.com.

The fire and the nook tablet are equivalent, the nook color is a step down.

Actually the Kindle Fire and Nook Color are nearly equivalent, the Nook Tablet doubles the storage memory to 16 GB.

And as others have said, it is very unlikely for the price of the Fire or the Nook Tablet to come down at all this season.

My Kindle Fire shipped today!!!! DH owns the Kindle 2 and we had been wanting to purchase a new Kindle - since he wants his back. LOL

But since you can now rent books from your library for the kindle - the playing field has been leveled and I think the Kindle is the better bet. The books through Amazon - for the most part, a little cheaper. Amazon has better customer service - my first kindle screen cracked - was replaced at 6 months - no questions asked. I was shipped a new Kindle - received it the next day - then I had to ship the broken one back within 30 days. I gave my sister a Nook for her birthday - she is a diehard B&N fan - her Nook malfunctioned after 3 months. She had to ship it back at her expense - and B&N only replaced it after they looked at it. She now wishes she had a kindle.

I honestly don't see capacity as an issue I'm not looking for a laptop replacement.

I got an email sent late last night that said mine had shipped. That was 24 hours after ordering and much sooner than the 3-5 day shipping wait it notified me of when I ordered. It's still showing an estimated delivery of 11/28. Since it has never taken 11 days to get anything from them I'm hoping to have it before Thanksgiving. I bet you'll have yours the end of this week or the very first of next week.

I'll be pissed if they do only because I ordered it right from the beginning and paid full price.....:rotfl:

From the reviews on Amazon's website I think the answer is no. Maybe if you turn off the Wifi? There seem to be a lot of complaints that you can't turn off 1-click buying and it doesn't require a password. So you either have to password protect your whole device or not have it linked to a credit card at all which doesn't make any sense.

I dont know about Kindles but I know some TVs will be.:thumbsup2
