Where we live in Ontario by late May we have to deal with black flies, deer flies, horse flies etc. etc. so we are very used to dealing with bugs.

Just wondering about what sort of bugs might be in Orlando during the same time period?

This will be our first spring visit so have no idea what to expect.

Any tips would be appreciated.
Thank you

The only bugs we have ever encountered (at any time of the year) during our numberous trips to Disney was around the Magic Kingdom boat dock where I got eaten alive by mossies.

Gee I didn't think bugs were allowed to bite at Disney :lmao:

We've been in October and bugs have never been too bad.

We'll be there in 2 weeks time :dance3: for our May long weekend so I'll let you know what they are like when I return!

Just got back last night and the love bugs were out and they loved my legs!!!!!:confused3 I have at least a half a dozen bites on each leg. Bring insect repellent, I almost didnt because they said they spray so well you dont need it, luckily I threw it in just to be safe and it helped. We went to Epcot around 6 one nigth and I hadnt put it on and Igot really bit and it wasnt even dark yet, so I quickly rubbed my legs and I was ok for the rest of the night.

Ok just read on the other post that it was not the love bugs biting me but they were there too along with some other critter biting my legs, ugh!

We were there last Sept and the lovebugs were thick. We were told that May is another month when the lovebugs are present. They don't bite or sting but they are a nusiance. They like wet areas like pools and around trees and other vegetation. We were told that their only natural enemy is the car. I believe it because everytime we went anywhere we were sure to have a couple of hundred plastered to your windshield or grill.
They are called lovebugs because the larger female is looking for a mate, so she attaches herself to the male, end to end, and drags him around and does who knows what. It looks like one long fly with a head and a set of wings on each end. Glad I'm not going to be there again in lovebug season.

On our May trip in 05 we encounterd lots and lots of yellowjackets and bees and lots of small biting bugs kinda reminded me of blackflies but not quit the same. You will notice them in the evening while waiting for the busses and get eaten alive if you are prone to bug bites I am not so they left me alone but my youngest DD was bitten quite badly.

LOVEBUGS :scared1:  :scared1:

Now I know why the SWA flights and accommodation were both so inexpensive!!!!

Thanks for all the info.:goodvibes . I will bring some insect repellant and some bendryl (for possible bee stings).

OT - Both DH and I have minor bee sting allergies. We take benedryl for moderate swelling as well experience bad flu like nausea for about 48 hours after a sting. A couple times I have had to go to the hospital as well for some sort of shot (forget what as I was a kid when this happened) .

The kids have not had allergy testing but wonder if they could also be allergic since DH and I are. They have both YET to be stung.
Besides gravol and benedryl, does anyone have any other suggestions in case they do in fact end up getting stung?

In the case of a sting one thing my allergist told me to do other than my epipen which I will not use (I hate needles and to give myself a needle forget it) He said to put an d aspirin on the sting site it draws the venom out and the stinger if it is still in the wound. I have never tried it but I take his word for it as he is teh allergy specialist in this case.
