All this Star-Mangled Banner talk got me thinking - Besides our National Anthem, what are some other notoriously hard songs to sing? Let's keep it at pop, jazz, or other mainstream stuff - no Italian arias please!

One that comes to my mind is that famous 80s hit Take On Me, by A-ha. It has over a 2-and-a-half octave range! I cannot think of a pop song that requires that big a range.

as a singer, the hardest song for me is "carol of the bells". there's really no break in it to breathe!

I remember Kathie Lee Gifford talking about how difficult it is to sing Stephen Sondheim songs.

"I Will Always Love You" Dolly Parton/Whitney Houston.
And I agree with the PP who said any Mariah Carey song.

Almost anything by Josh Groban, those high notes are insane.

Any song! Seriously, I can't even sing the alphabet song properly, I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket.:rotfl2:

The song "Fame" from the movie. Lots of words, lots of notes, no where for a breath

I think Mmm Mmm Mmm by the Crash Test Dummies would be hard to sing, but it's harder to request it.

Anything by Boston. The range on those songs is insane. Livin on a Prayer by Bon Jovi, the key changes just before the last chorus and takes it so high I can't hit the notes and I sing soprano.

And Lady Gaga...tried singing her in Rock Band...just couldn't do it.

I learned from a bad karaoke experience that Crocodile Rock is horribly difficult to sing!

I have also sung Hotel California a few times at karaoke, and it doesn't seem hard to sing, but my DH and others who were listening told us we should not have attempted that one. :confused3

I also love to sing Bohemian Rhapsody, but that can be difficult too.

Any in Public. I am very Shy when in comes to singing in public because I feel everyone is so judgmental.:scared1:

I am not a singer
But I have heard that the "lonely Goat song" from The Sound of Music
(I am not sure of the name -the one with the yodeling) is really hard

"Solioquy" from the musical "Carousel" - it is 9 1/2 minutes long!

i think it depends on the person. I sometimes have trouble with songs that hover around the break between my chest and head voice. I have a strong chest voice and a strong head voice but I have a hard time making the crossover between the two unnoticable. I can't think of a specific song at the moment though.
