What are my chances of upgrade at WL arriving

My advice is don't count on it. We had a courtyard room reserved and we checked in at 12:15 pm and we got a courtyard room on the first floor, with a duck nest right outside our door. We never got to sleep in the entire vacation, the ducks woke us up every am at 6:00 am. I will always request a top floor room from now on and if I have to pay for it, I will.

We had a woods view room reserved for July 22 - 28. We checked in at 3PM, and were assigned a room. I didn't ask where it was, because as long as it was woods view, I didn't care. When we got to the room we found that it was a courtyard view room, just above and to the left of Artist Point! Nice view and a free upgrade.

It was our 10th anniversary, and the WL staff was aware of that, so that may have been a factor.

Since there are fewer Standard views at WL upgrade from Standard view at WL appears to be done more often than other upgrades. My sister and family got just such an upgrade the last time they stayed there - they did not check in early and did not ask for it. However the vast majority of people get just what they reserved. Updates are great but I wouldn't think ahead about getting one. That way if it does happen it is something special and there is absolutely no disappointment even if it just in the back of your mind. Of course I don't play the lottery either.

The one time we stayed at WL (we now stay at VWL) we were upgraded from standard to woods view room with bunk beds. The kids were thrilled as they really wanted a bunk bed but we had warned them ahead of time that there were no bunk beds in standard rooms. We checked in about noon and it was obvious that our room was preassigned meaning the desk CM didn't do anything to give us the better room. We know this because when we got to the room there were maintenance guys in it fixing one small problem. They said "Oh Mr and Mrs. X. you're here a little earlier than we expected. Could give give us about 10 minutes to finish up in here?"
