What Are Chances of Getting Back Late Into Port?

As crazy as this seems, we are thinking about getting off the Wonder on Dec 19 and boarding the Carnival Fantasy for a 4 day that same day. The Carnival Fantasy departs Port Canaveral also, at 4:30 PM. I'm not worried about having to drive - but my husband is worried that the Wonder may be late into getting into port. I'm thinking it shouldn't be a problem - even with Hurricane Charley and it being late, we still would have arrived in time.

The only issue I can think of, and really remote, is engine trouble. Has the Wonder ever had to limp back to port and be really late?

I can't say never because I don't know for sure, but I don't think I have heard anything about either the Wonder or Magic being late getting into port. If anything they are usually there really early in the morning. You have to remember, the Wonder will be scheduled to leave out that afternoon also. So, baring a major catastrophe I would think you would be okay.

From time to time things do happen that cause the ships to come into port late...but they do not happen very often.

I was on the Magic back in 2001 when it came into port very late due to a medical emergency on Castaway Cay. We did not leave CC until after 10:00 pm so that put us very late into Port Canaveral. Many people missed their flights that morning.

MMouse3 - how late was late in your case? I think even if we are as late as 2-2:30, I should be able to embark and hurry over to the Fantasy. Later than that would have me concerned.

last sat the magic was late due to charley, disembarkation was delyed by about an hour and a half, but the hurricane season is over by mid november so you should be ok

I also don't think that either ships (knock on wood) have had problems with their engines either. And the Wonder is going into dry dock in Oct. I think you guys will be just fine.

Out of 38 cruises, we've only been delayed getting into port once. Separately, disembarkation was delayed once due to a change in the terrorism alert, even though we arrived at the port on time.

I'm going to check into insurance - some policies won't cover it though some may. I just need to find the right one. I know the chances are extremely remote that I'll miss the second ship but I would like to know we are covered just in case.

We were let off the ship at 11:00 or so back in 2001....as you said...even it were later than that you would still have time to get your other cruise.

In 10 cruises on the Magic, we've never gotten into port late. We did have one episode where disembarkation was delayed by US Customs for an unspecified reason.

People have flights to make, and DCL wants you off by 9 (remember that they have another cruise to prepare for too....) so they'll have you off in the early am if at all possible.
