I figured I'd ask everyone what all these attractions are about and if they are worth visiting next time I go to DLR. Just maybe tell me what you like about them, rate them, tips for seeing them, or suggest to watch them or not bother. These are all things that I have not seen or ridden, despite going to Disneyland a few times.
Keep in mind that I am 17, female... But I like everything.

Disneyland
  • Aladdin's Oasis
  • Golden Horseshoe Saloon Revue
  • Fantasmic - I hear awesome reviews of this, but I haven't seen Fantasia. Would I still like it?
  • Parade of Dreams
  • Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters
  • Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin
  • Autopia - Now that I can drive this doesn't seem as fun... but you never know!
  • Enchanted Tiki Room
  • Storybook Land Canal Boats
  • Sailing Ship Columbia/Mark Twain Riverboat
  • And also, what is the appeal of the streetcars on Main Street? I am considering trying that sometime as well!

I missed the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage since I went on the opening days and the line was 6 hours long at some points.
Will definitely ride it next trip, it's one of my favorite movies!
And to be honest I have never stood and watched the fireworks.

California Adventure
  • Animation Academy
  • Sorcerer's Workshop
  • Turtle Talk With Crush - I think I'd love this, but how crowded is it usually?
  • The Bakery Tour
  • It's Tough To Be a Bug!
  • Muppet Vision 3-D
  • Golden Dreams
  • Disney's Aladdin Musical Spectacular
  • Electrical Parade

Firstly Fantasmic and Fantasia the movie are very loosely connected......maybe just through scorcerer Mickey. You should plan and see it. Also both parades rate "not to be missed" by my family. Turtle talk is a lot of fun, never more than a 20-30 minute wait, and the 3D movies are usually walk ons and worth the time to see.

Aladdin's Oasis

This is a little show, I think three people, who do a quick Aladdin story. If you go to the one at DCA this one is far less quality. A nice place to sit and rest and be entertained. I guess it is worth seeing once, but you could miss it. You are up close to Aladdin, Jasmine and the other guy that plays a bunch of rolls.

Golden Horseshoe Saloon Revue

Don't know

Fantasmic - I hear awesome reviews of this, but I haven't seen Fantasia. Would I still like it?

This one is a MUST SEE! I haven't seen much of Fantasia either, but the show is great. We stayed there then watched the fireworks from our Fantasmic seats. SEE IT!

Parade of Dreams
Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters
Not sure about either of these

Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin

It is a ride. Depends on the wait. If you fast pass it and don't care much about being dizzy/car sick you will enjoy the ride. I wouldn't wait more than 10 min to ride it though.

Autopia - Now that I can drive this doesn't seem as fun... but you never know!

I agree. See it with a kid that can drive with you. Other than that, I pass.

Enchanted Tiki Room

Not sure.

Storybook Land Canal Boats

I will try my best to never ride this again. Can you say boring? I know I will get slammed for that, but yuck. I would rather spend the time in line for another ride than to waste in on this ride.

Sailing Ship Columbia/Mark Twain Riverboat

haven't done it.

And also, what is the appeal of the streetcars on Main Street? I am considering trying that sometime as well!

You got me.

And to be honest I have never stood and watched the fireworks.

Don't stand, sit and take them in. Maybe after watching Fantasmic.

California Adventure

Animation Academy

???"?

Sorcerer's Workshop
?????

Turtle Talk With Crush - I think I'd love this, but how crowded is it usually?

I think I will like it also, plan on seeing it for the first time in October.

The Bakery Tour

??????

It's Tough To Be a Bug!

?????

Muppet Vision 3-D

???????

Golden Dreams

??????

Disney's Aladdin Musical Spectacular

Worth the price of admission to the park, at least seeing it for the first time that is. I ended up doing it after it was recommended by a co-worker, but I didn't think I would like it. I loved it, definite must do.

Electrical Parade

Haven't seen it.

Having gone with teens before, I would say that Buzz Lightyear and Fantasmic are the main must sees for you at DL. It doesn't matter that you haven't seen Fantasia. The teens I've gone with like Roger Rabbit and Autopia, but not nearly as much as Buzz. They also like the Tiki room as an escape from the sun and another excuse for a Dole Whip. And they'll put up with the parade once in awhile. I can't get my son on the Mark Twain or Columbia, and I have to bribe him to go on Storybook Canal (I love it though). He'll watch the Horseshoe review once in awhile.

At DCA, my DS hasn't been interested in many of the things listed. Key exceptions are Aladdin, ELP, and the 3-D shows. Aladdin is an excellent show, the best show I've ever seen to at DL. And the ELP is a classic. The 3-D shows are pretty fun although my DS gets bored with them after watching them a few times.

Disneyland
Aladdin's Oasis- I am a pass holder and go all the time and still haven't done this

Golden Horseshoe Saloon Revue- haven't done this in years I think they still have the one band there who weren't bad, but I miss the old revue

Fantasmic - I hear awesome reviews of this, but I haven't seen Fantasia. Would I still like it?- Doesn't matter you haven't seen Fanastia the show is just AMAZING!!!!!!!!

Parade of Dreams- not a big parade person

Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters- this ride is alot of fun, and spin the car for extra shooting and usually short lines

Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin- this is a fun ride if the line isn't too long

Autopia - Now that I can drive this doesn't seem as fun... but you never know!- I personally think this is a skip but that is me, but give it a try if the line is short

Enchanted Tiki Room- Everyone should do the Tiki room! It is the best and a classic, it might take you about two times to really like it but once you do you will love it forever!

Storybook Land Canal Boats- A group of friends and I said wow we haven't been on that ride for decades and none of us could remember it, we went on and said though not bad we all would probably wait many more years before going back. Its cute, its quiant and very slow.

Sailing Ship Columbia/Mark Twain Riverboat- the boats are great to do sometimes

And also, what is the appeal of the streetcars on Main Street? I am considering trying that sometime as well!- I want to do this one time too, it looks fun

California Adventure
Animation Academy- Do it its a lot of fun!
Sorcerer's Workshop- Go see what charector you are and play around it is pretty cool

Turtle Talk With Crush - I think I'd love this, but how crowded is it usually?- I haven't been when it was too crowded and it is a really cute and fun show

The Bakery Tour- its pretty quick but so worth the yummy bread sample

It's Tough To Be a Bug!- YES! Its a great show

Muppet Vision 3-D- Another fun show!

Golden Dreams- Its a one time do, its really good but probably only need to see it once

Disney's Aladdin Musical Spectacular- An excellent show that really is worth the wait WOW!!!!!!!!

Electrical Parade- Being older then you I remember it on Main Street and it makes me nostalgic to hear that music its one of the only parades I will watch

Stay and see the fireworks, usually I am not a big fireworks person but this show is great! You have to see the castle though it is the best part.

Looks like others have filled in the gaps pretty well with the exception of:

Golden Horseshoe - You MUST see Billy Hill & the Hillbillies. It's an excellent show, especially if Kirk Wall is performing. He makes me laugh till my sides hurt! Get there at least 20 minutes prior to showtime to get a good table.

Speaking of which, I see people talking about those on here all the time.
What are they?

A Dole Whip is frozen soft serve pineapple ice cream. A Dole Whip Float is the soft serve with pineapple juice and a cute little umbrella and cherry in it.

hahahah, Autopia... just dont read the other forums or you just might try what they are trying to do with those Autopia cars...

HAHAHAHAHA... Whenever Autopia comes up, i think of that :D

Disneyland

[*]Aladdin's Oasis

It's a fun 'Princess-style' storytelling, with a few more characters in it than just Jasmine/the Princess. It's fun to see at least once. The Oasis is themed and decorated really nice and ornate inside and out... and the stage the storytelling is presented on, IMO os one of most beautiful sights at DL that is rarely seen by most and off the beaten path.

[*]Golden Horseshoe Saloon Revue

The 'Revue' was retired many years ago... and the 'Variety show' was retired a few years ago. The always amazing Billy Hill & the Hillbillies are the showcase in the western showplace and their shows I highly recommend.
In addition to the entertaining and hilarious show, just being in the gorgeous Golden Horseshoe Saloon is just worth it to see. It's amazing look and feel and historic atmosphere hasn't changed in decades...
The Golden Horseshoe, upstairs and down... feels very classic Disneyland to me.
The Billies are the icing on the cake.
The Mousetrap Overture rules!! :rotfl2:

[*]Fantasmic - I hear awesome reviews of this, but I haven't seen Fantasia. Would I still like it?

To me, F! is one of the absolute greatest shows ever performed on any stage ever, anywhere. And 15 years later of seeing many many shows... It's still my number 1 thing Disney has ever done.. anywhere.

Fantasmic! is much more than just Fantasia music, characters and visuals...
It goes deep into Mickeys imagination... and Disney classics old and newer are portrayed.
The ultimate Disney battle of good vs evil...
Awesome FX, incredible characters, unbelievably amazing music....
The ultimate Disney show. Over the years I have overheard dozens of people say after their first Fantasmic!... that it was worth the price of admission alone.
(Now I really wanna go see it tonight!! :goodvibes )

[*]Parade of Dreams

I really like PoD. Cool music, fun floats, cool show stops, and a lot of talent in the dancing, stunts and acrobatics.
I wasn't really a fan of the previous parade... the Parade of Stars.
To me PoD is really fun and entertaining.
I haven't liked a parade as much as PoD since Mulan at DL.

[*]Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters

I'm addicted. Big time!
I love most dark rides, and I really love BLAB.
Actually I love Zurg too!

[*]Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin

One of my all-time favorite queues... leading to one of my all-time favorite dark rides. A true Disney character or not... Rogers movie is fun, and Cartoon Spin is a really fun spinning dark ride.

[*]Autopia - Now that I can drive this doesn't seem as fun... but you never know!

To me... Autopia feels like older Disneyland. The DL of my childhood. It's simple, it's noisy, it's old (even upgraded, it's old-feeling)...but there is just something about it. It feels old Tomorrowland, it feels TL of the past zen to me. It's really relaxing mentally to drive an Autopia car... It's hard to explain...
Modern times or not... driving an Autopia car is like stopping to smell the roses. It's a pleasure. Especially in todays faster speed/more thrills times.
It's a Disneyland classic. No matter how many other parks have car rides... This one was one of Walt's car rides. It still feels like it. :thumbsup2

[*]Enchanted Tiki Room

Many don't like the Tiki Room...
It's cool... it's really nicely air conditioned... and even more than Autopia.. the Tiki Room feels and sounds Walt Disney. The decor and theming, the music, the humor, the inventive and innocent jokes and gags, the character development, the at the time state of the art/ground breaking technology, the imagination and engineering, the simple pleasures, it's cute and imaginative and warm and inviting, a real escape from the strict real world, with Walt in total control of the mood, sound, visuals and the magic.
By the time the last song is sung... a true Sherman Bros classic... Which sounds SO Walt to me... I have a huge smile on my face. The Tiki Room to me fills me with even more appreciation for the incredible imaginative talent Walt Disney had.
I'm so happy it's still called Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room.
An eternally fitting title... for a wonderfully entertaining attraction.

[*]Storybook Land Canal Boats

I don't ride Storybook much... and I actually pefer Casey Jr for the same views... but Storybook is cool. Simple. Cute. Relaxing. Fun. Beautiful.
I think magically quaint.. is a good description.

[*]Sailing Ship Columbia/Mark Twain Riverboat

Both are different experiences. They feel old DL. They feel old-time. Historic. Adventurous. American. They feel Walt Disney also...
I find them both relaxing. Physically and mentally. My last Columbia ride on Valentines Day was incredibly mentally relaxing. Even with some crying children near me on the very packed ship... it was zen. I felt so much better when I got off the Columbia then when I got on. And I really didn't expect it when I chose to ride. Seeing the Keel Boat and the old Natures Wonderland Mine Train also both make me smile inside. Cool histories, cool Yesterland attractions, cool props for theming and historic reflection.

[*]And also, what is the appeal of the streetcars on Main Street? I am considering trying that sometime as well!

Fun to ride if you are tired, or not in a hurry... or for the old-time theme immersion feeling.
Each vehicle is a fun ride in it's own way.. up or down Main St.
Try the upper deck of the Omnibus too! :thumbsup2

And to be honest I have never stood and watched the fireworks.

Remember.... isn't just a fireworks show. :wizard:
It's really an amazing world class attraction in itself...

Truly an E-Ticket in the Sky.

With the extra FX, pyro-choregraphy, subject matter, Tinker Bell and the ground breaking OMG visuals, Remember... is quite possibly the best fireworks show on earth.
Or ever. :yay:

California Adventure

[*]Animation Academy

A fun 'draw a Disney character' show/workshop.

[*]Sorcerer's Workshop

Classic Disney animation fun!
Draw your own cartoon and animate it in one of the spinners.
Find out which Disney character you are most like.
Add your speaking or singing voice to a Disney feature animation classic and see how you do at the surprisingly difficult task of cartoon voice-over work.

[*]Turtle Talk With Crush - I think I'd love this, but how crowded is it usually?

The theater has many seats, in a comfy cool atmosphere. And most kids sit upfront on the floor. So teens and adults have plenty of room.
I like Turtle Talk with Crush.
But I like Stitch Phone at DL inside Innoventions even more. It's more intimate, you get a free pic from Stitch that you pick up online... and I like Stitch more as a character than Crush. But Turtle Talk is fun.
I've even heard sometimes Crush gets some guests during his talks... but I haven't seen Dory or the whale yet.

[*]The Bakery Tour

I really like Colin Mocherie in general and I like sourdough bread.
But I really don't like Rosie O'Donnel and the 'tour' after the 1st time is really boring... so this is one of the things at DCA i don't really ever want to see again.
Free bread sample or not. I'll pass!
The tortilla 'tour' OTOH is really cool, very short and tasty!!

[*]It's Tough To Be a Bug!

I love this show. I will gladly sit thru it anytime I visit DCA or anytime anyone wants to.
It's fun. It's funny. It's dark. It's scary. It's Evil. It's HOPPER!!
:lmao:
To me this 8 minute good time -beginning to end- never gets old!

[*]Muppet Vision 3-D

I like Muppetvision. I would have made it a little differently and had some different Muppets in it. But I still really like it.
Fun. Funny. Some great great characters, gags, laughs, FX.
And how can anyone not love Kermit the Frog, Statler & Waldorf, the Swedish Chef and an awesome audio-animatronic penguin orchestra!
Waldo the Spirit of 3D OTOH... is IMO pretty lame.

[*]Golden Dreams

It's good once. It shows a lot of respect to many great great great people in the history of Caifornia.. and some disrespect by fudging some facts and history... and Whoppi makes the whole attraction annoying in my opinion.
The song and montage at the end is well done... and is a bit touching to some people. I find the end cool and honorable.
What leads up to the end, is ... ummm ... worth seeing once.

[*]Disney's Aladdin Musical Spectacular

A great fun, funny, beautiful looking and amazing sounding musical.
Seen Aladdin about a dozen times now... still love it.
When the whole show is 'on' and everything is working...
Aladdin is a lot of fun!!

[*]Electrical Parade

I'm really not a fan.
The music drives me totally bonkers. :headache:

:)

Autopia's a hoot, especially at night. It's like riding a scooter around. Buzz Lightyear is inexplicably fun--all you do is sit in a little car on an assembly line and shoot targets with a ray gun. Golden Dreams is good if you like feel good sentimentality (I do.) Turtle Talk is a must do--it is really cute.

I just got back from DL last night. Here are my thoughts.

Disneyland
[*]Aladdin's Oasis
Didn't watch it but there was never a line.

[*]Golden Horseshoe Saloon Revue
We watched the 11:15am "Billy Hill and the Hillbillies" show on Sunday and it just plain sucked. Even my 10yo son who is a HUGE country music fan thought it was boring. The live action "bank robber" show that had a continuing story line and ran every hour or so in front of the theater was much much better.
[*]Fantasmic - I hear awesome reviews of this, but I haven't seen Fantasia. Would I still like it?
Didn't see the whole thing because the crowds were just insane but from what I did see, the effects were spectacular. If you don't mind the crowds, it's a must see. If you have any concept of personal space, skip it as people were so jammed up against each other near the front there was no space to even move.

[*]Parade of Dreams
Watched this on the 4th of July and me and the rest of the family loved it. I don't know if it is a regular thing, but on the 4th there was a platoon of US Marines leading the parade doing Rifle Drill as they marched. Being a Former Marine myself, it actually made my eyes tear up. Even without the Marines I would say that this is something you must see at least once if you are even remotely into the "Disney" experience. There were tons of characters who were hugging the kids, shaking hands, and just generally having a great time interacting with the audience. One of the highpoints of the trip was when Tinkerbell and Cinderalla came down off the floats and took pictures with my daughters.

We were at very front of the special "Ridemax" spot and the characters were less than 3 feet away and facing us the entire time. YMMV if you end up in a crappy location where they have to work both sides of the street.
[*]Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters
my son (12) rode this and said it was somewhat cool but he wasn't really impressed.
[*]Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin
See Buzz Lightyear
[*]Autopia - Now that I can drive this doesn't seem as fun... but you never know!
We tried to ride this several times but something always came up. The last time we used fastpasses and, after waiting in line for 15 minutes and moving less than 1/3rd of the way to the front, we left and rerode space mountain.
[*]Enchanted Tiki Room
Didn't go through this but never saw a line, no matter how busy adventurland was.
[*]Storybook Land Canal Boats
Didnt ride
[*]Sailing Ship Columbia/Mark Twain Riverboat
Didnt see much point of this. The canal is pretty small so there is nothing you see from the boat that you can't see from the shore. Add in the fact that there are no bathrooms on the boat and me and the rest of my family skipped it.
[*]And also, what is the appeal of the streetcars on Main Street? I am considering trying that sometime as well!
[/LIST]
Depending on the crowds, these may or may not be something fun to do. We saw the streetcars get stuck in traffic several times due to the massive mobs of people trying to cross. Other times they ran really smooth.

I missed the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage since I went on the opening days and the line was 6 hours long at some points.
Will definitely ride it next trip, it's one of my favorite movies!
And to be honest I have never stood and watched the fireworks.
Nemo was STILL crazy(1-3 hours depending on time of day) for the 4 days I was in park. I never even considered riding it.

Fireworks: I REALLY wanted to watch the fireworks but again, the crowds were just insane. We ended up heading outside the park and watching them as we waited for the shuttle back to the hotel most nights.

OK...Tired of quoting. Will only comment on the ones we did this time.

California Adventure

[*]Animation Academy
[*]Sorcerer's Workshop
[*]Turtle Talk With Crush - I think I'd love this, but how crowded is it usually?
We didn't actually watch these but went in and stood in the air conditioning/gift shop a few times as we walked throught he park. I never saw a line for any of the shows.
[*]Muppet Vision 3-D
This was one of the highlights of our entire trip. My entire family loved it. We were all laughing the entire way through. I rate this as a definite "Must See"
[*]Disney's Aladdin Musical Spectacular
We caught the 6pm show and it was absolutely wonderful. Everyone from my youngest daughter(5yo) to myself (40yo) had a great time. The acting was wonderful, the songs were very well done and the effects were just outstanding. Highly, Highly recommended. If you want a seat near the front, try to get there about 30 minutes early. We got there about 10 minutes before the 6pm show started and, although the theater holds 2,000 people, were very lucky to even get seats.
[*]Electrical Parade
I enjoyed it but it's not worth missing either the fireworks or Fantasmic for. Although very pretty, it's just not as good as the other events. Especially when you add in the fact that there is very little character interaction with the audience.

We didn't do Aladins Oasis or the Golden Horseshoe, we watched Fantasmic in 2004 didn't really feel the urge to sit in the crowds for it in 2006. We watched the Parade of Dreams (once!) and it was OK but we are more ride type of people, we all loved Buzz, lots of fun to try and better your score and great to email your picture home.... We only did Roger Rabbit once each trip, lots of other better rides in our opinion, my son loved Autotopia (9yo) it was a bit oh hum for us drivers tho. Tiki room was fun to do once, my daughter like storybook land, sort of a once a trip ride as are the two boats, only do these rides if you have the time.

Animation, Sorcers and Turtle Talk were well worth while, we saw Turtle twice, its a real hoot even for us old kids... Didn't do the Bakery tour but the Bug, Muppets and Aladdin were all well worth doing, I would only do Dreams if you have the time, definitely try to see the Electric light Parade, its a piece of history.

A great fun, funny, beautiful looking and amazing sounding musical.
Seen Aladdin about a dozen times now... still love it.
When the whole show is 'on' and everything is working...
Aladdin is a lot of fun!!GREAT SHOW FOR ALL AGES. A $20-$25 SHOW IF YOU WERE BUYING A TIC IN YOUR HOMETOWN.

I'm really not a fan.
The music drives me totally bonkers. :headache:

:)
I SO agree with many of Another Dimension's opinion, but also..... she states (incredibly well, btw)... how I "feel" about most of these attractions.

I've made a couple of comments above, but wonderful post Another Dimension. :thumbsup2

You've missed out on some of my FAVOURITE attractions. My comments (below) will likely just re-iterate what others have said, but I love some of these so much that I feel I should comment anyway :-)

Disneyland

* Fantasmic - I loved this show the first time I saw it. Now I find the crowds a little overwhelming. Still a must see though. The effects are pretty spectacular

* Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters: this ride is absolutely a blast. It's a must do. At the end of the ride, you can email yourself a picture of you during the ride (for free). The lines also move pretty fast, so it's worth doing a couple of times.

* Enchanted Tiki Room: I'm not in love with the show, but it's such a Disney classic that's worth seeing. If nothing else, it's a nice break from walking and standing in line.

* Storybook Land Canal Boats: I wouldn't go out of my way to do this ride.

California Adventure

* Animation Academy: I really love this! You learn how to draw a Disney character. It's very fun.

* Sorcerer's Workshop: if it's not too crowded, this area is worth a walk through. The Beauty and the Beast part is neat.

* Turtle Talk With Crush - we've been once. The waiting area was crowded, but it wasn't too bad because we got there early. The show is really cute!

* The Bakery Tour: I prefer the Tortilla Factory, hands down.

* It's Tough To Be a Bug!: You MUST see this show. It's fantastic.

* Muppet Vision 3-D: meh!

* Disney's Aladdin Musical Spectacular: This is also a must see. I think I watched it three times on my last trip. The genie is hilarious. Definitely worth standing in line for.

* Electrical Parade

First, let me start by saying that I think you should try everything at least once! That said, here are a few comments from our experience of the ones we have done:
Disneyland
Aladdin's Oasis - My daughter loves this one but of course she is only 7. If you like Aladdin and children you will love this show. It is a nice sit down break and very well done.
Golden Horseshoe Saloon Revue - Fun to watch, especially if you like corny humor.
Parade of Dreams - Everyone should see a parade once. It gives me cold chills even though it is not one of my favorite parades.
Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters - Fast paced shooting fun.
Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin - More fast pace. Really noisy and I am just not into the spinning cars.
Autopia - Always amazed that this has such a long line. The scenery is nice but my foot hurts from having to press so hard. They need to soften up those pedals!
Enchanted Tiki Room - Great show. Again, another nice sit down break!
Storybook Land Canal Boats - Especially pretty at night. Slow but the attention to little details is really fun to take in.
Sailing Ship Columbia/Mark Twain Riverboat - Fun to see the island from all sides. Relaxing. There is a nice museum in the lower deck of the Columbia.
Fireworks - very beautifuland another that will give you cold chills.

California Adventure
Animation Academy - Very interesting. They teach you how to draw characters. Really cool to learn how the professionals draw.
Turtle Talk With Crush - Fun interactive show. Amazing how real it looks.
It's Tough To Be a Bug! - This is one of our least favorites. Beware of the stinger that will poke you in the back. Creepy if you really don't like bugs.
Muppet Vision 3-D - Funny show. 3D effect is very neat. Even the line is fun.
Golden Dreams - A nice historical show but I agee one time will probably do.
Disney's Aladdin Musical Spectacular - Excellent show! We took a teen with us last year and she made my son go with her at least 3 times!
Electrical Parade - One of my favorite parades. So beautiful and upbeat.

Have a great time! :)
