What age to let your kids bring friends?

momx2, I only have one, but I think you'd be better off letting the 8yo have a friend then the 12yo. We have friends we visit in FL that have a 13 yo daughter. My DD just turned 15. Sometimes they get along, and sometimes my DD would rather be alone than play with "such a kid" Unless you're planning to entertain the 8 yo full time, I would not suggest bringing a friend for the 12yo JMHO
Too bad you can't bring a friend for both!

That's kind of what I was thinking. My DD12 would probably love her friend for about a day and a half and then want to send her off on the next plane back to KY!:rotfl2: Plus, I would have to entertain DD8. Right now, DD12 does play with her some and that's better than none if she brought a friend. Might do a friend for each when they get older, who knows? Think we'll keep it family for now!

We let DS14 (at the time) bring someone for the first time this past year. It worked out fine. They were old enough to go off on their own. Our rules were they had to tell us where they were going, they had to stay together at all times, and they had to keep in touch with us. They could do the things they wanted to do and we could take our DD8 (at the time) to do the things she wanted to do. I personally would not take anyone younger as I think a week (or more) is a long time to be away and would fear they would become homesick (even if you know them and think it wouldn't happen, it could) and being so far away and given the cost, it is not worth risking.

Since DD is an only child, we will definitely let her bring friends to Disney. She is only 7, so we are a few years away from this. I'm thinking high school age for friends and possibly middle school age for cousins.
