What age did you buy your child a laptop?

We have not bought any of the kids their own computers. They are 17, 15, 7 & 4. We all share the one laptop in the house.

DS15 does have the old (very old!) desktop though, but it's not hooked up to the internet.

I bought one for myself when I turned 21 to use for school until then since I lived at home I just used the family desktop.

We just bought them for Christmas this year for each child. That's the main thing that they fight about, so after Christmas it should be peaceful here.

We just bought one for my daughter and she is 11. She needs it for school.

Mine also needed one for high school so that is when she got hers.

My kids received theirs when they graduated from high school.

My daughter got her laptop for her 10th birthday- she uses it all the time for playing games and for doing school projects.

My son was 12 when we got one to share with each other. Since we fight over who gets to use it, I'm thinking about buying myself a netbook and letting him keep the laptop for himself.

DS14 got his last year for Christmas. We each have our own and life is very peaceful.

I got my laptop when I was 11. My sister got her's when she was 9. My parents use them now more than we do. The only thing that bothers me is my battery screwed up and i can't take it to watch movies on on the way to WDW.

DS16 is getting a notebook for Christmas (assuming the one from Best Buy shows up...long story).

DD10 is getting a netbook, which has software on it for word processing, etc., but my guess is she will mainly use it for her online games.

We are getting my ds10 a refurbished laptop for Christmas this year.

I didn´t and can´t imagine I will. They will have to save up for them. My oldest 2 bought theirs at 11 and 13, for their own money which they had saved from numerous birthdays and Christmases.

We bought our oldest DS his first desktop computer when he was 12 (he had our family computer to use before that). He bought himself a laptop last year at age 15.

That's when I got my first (used) laptop. I'm a child at heart.

My son got his for his 18th birthday. It was the only gift we got him that he was truly surprised to get. Unfortunately, now my other kids will know what they will be getting for their 18th birthday.

I bought my DD8 a laptop for her b-day, it was a Dell mini 7 and she loved it! It was great because I could be on my laptop without her pestering me for hours to use mine. My DD6 got the desktop to her self but she was never big on computer use like DD8, so it was fine for her. Unfortunately my house was burglarized and both of our laptops were stolen so it'll be awhile before she gets her own laptop again.

Didn't you file an insurance claim for them?
