What About Splitting Up the Community Board?

I was reading one of the Christian/Non-Christan posts and a question crossed my mind: would it be better if there were individual boards for Religion, Politics, and Television, along with the existing community board?

It just seems a little odd to me to be discussing (for example) Global Warming, Christianity, Anna Nicole Smith and Grey's Anatomy on the same board.

Isn't that what makes it so interesting?

I wouldn't want it split up. I like that it's so diverse.

We used to have a "Debate Board", but it got out of control and they banished it and it kind of merged with the Community Board. That is my take of what happened. I have not enjoyed the CB as much since that decision due to the fact that I am not very confrontational and rarely like a "good debate" as they say.... So, I just don't open those threads.

Not to be confrontational, but why would you enjoy the CB less just because of the presence of "debate board" type threads since you've stated you don't open them?

I like the variety of subjects--it makes it interesting. Plus, if subjects are all divided into separate boards, I think the boards wouldn't move so quickly--which is one of the things I really like about it.

If we started splitting everything up we wouldn' t have a community.:grouphug:

I like it the way it is. It goes back to the whole if you don't want to read the thread don't open it idea. I think it would be a pain to check the sub boards all the time. With the community board all the threads are in one place!

In a real community you have all issues present. There are discussions involving religion, environment, politics and personal issues. Everyone has a different way of communicating. If you don't like a particular subject there are usually plenty of others to choose from.

We used to have a debate board. IMO, the CB got a lot more interesting when the two were merged.

I think it makes for much better reading when it's altogether.

The only problem Ive seen (and I have not been around long) is the few people who use bad manners. That wont stop no matter what you do. I agree that the fast pace of this board is what is so good about it.

I think the first new board made should be the "We Need New Boards Board". There people can debate the kinds of new boards needed. Plan the new names. And discuss the behavior that will be allowed on future boards.

:lmao:

I like it the way it is. I just stay away from debate topics mostly politcs, religion. I didn't mind when there was a debate forum. bh

The only sub-boards that I think would be great are politics and religion. It just seems like the same people post political threads over and over again. I do ignore them, but it is so annoying. If the same person posted any topic 100 times, it would be annoying.

I do enjoy the CB though. It's very entertaining and I really like reading about a lot of different topics.

I think it would be really hard to break up the community board. For example, how do you determine what a "political" thread is? The thing I like about the community board is that you don't have to stay on top so much. Having a board with a specific topic would take away a lot of the spontaneous rambling and ranting conversation that goes on here. What fun would that be? It'd be too regimented.
