What about formal night and semi-formal dinners?

Our 1st cruise and wondering if it's necessary to have tux, etc.? Planned for my husband and 14 yr. old son to just wear jacket and tie. Is that ok?

On our recent cruise our 14yo sons wore dress shirts and ties for formal and semi-formal night. They looked great and I didn't feel they were out of place.
